Hi everyone,
I will be attending the same school for law school as I did for undergrad and am currently a private tutor for a few middle schoolers. Their parents have been asking if I will be able to continue working when I am in law school, and I am just not sure. I really like these kids, and would love to keep working if at all possible. Do you think 1L is possible when working 10-15 hours a week?
If it helps, I have taken at least 21 credit hours per semester, now taking 24, while working with them for the last two years and have been able to maintain a 3.79.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Possible, but generally inadvisable to work during 1L. (The ABA limits full-time students to a max of 20 hrs/wk, incidentally.) 1L grades mean EVERYTHING in whether you get a job or not. Is it really worth the gamble?

10 hrs per week is totally doable.

On a related note, how plausible is it to attain Research Assistant positions and/or Resident Assistant positions as a 1L? I'd think both would only be plausible your 2nd semester, if at all.

Correct, it is only plausible the second semester. And it depends on who you are close with, faculty wise. I think it is rare though. A friend of mine started becoming a research assistant in 1L because one professor recommended him to another.Otunga wrote:On a related note, how plausible is it to attain Research Assistant positions and/or Resident Assistant positions as a 1L? I got a job within the school because i needed to cash. I still did fine.
