Can/Do People Eat During Law Classes & Exams?
Also, do people ever take a break and stretch or use the bathroom during law school exams?
But mostly just curious about the thread title's questions. Thanks.

Yes. But mostly you're just typing like crazy and too busy to do much more than grab a sip of water while you form your next thought.
At some point you're going to run out of inane questions to make threads for, right?

Oh, I was asking about the eating part, because of blood sugar reasons.
I know that as your blood sugar dips you'll feel tired and your mental capacities may diminish. But also, if you eat too much, then your blood flows from your brain into your stomache and you get tired and can't think that way as well.
So otpimally you'd want to have a light snack every now and then to maintain that alertness. That's what I do in class in UG right now.

I always have a granola bar and a (pre-peeled) orange during 3-5 hour finals. During 8 hour take-home exams I usually stop for a full meal during.

My philosophy professor this term actually encourages us to bring food to eat if it helps keep us alert. lol.

You can but it is rude if you are in the front or near the lecturer. I had a small seminar last semester where the professor asked a student to leave because his chewing was "distracting".
This probably depends on the prof.

Jesus Christ, you can't go an hour without eating something.

Eating during an exam (where others are present) is rude, whether you are allowed to or not.scifiguy wrote:No, I meant for 3 hours+ classes/exams....Desert Fox wrote:Jesus Christ, you can't go an hour without eating something.

REally? I figured most people would want to (but wasn't sure if they were allowed to) simply because of alertness concerns that may arise.Desert Fox wrote:Eating during an exam (where others are present) is rude, whether you are allowed to or not.scifiguy wrote:No, I meant for 3 hours+ classes/exams....Desert Fox wrote:Jesus Christ, you can't go an hour without eating something.

You are not thinking about your stomach or your bladder during a 3-hour final. You don't have time to.scifiguy wrote:REally? My school has a strict no food policy, since wrappers and crunching would annoy everyone and everything around you.
But you can leave the room, and go to the restroom or grab a snack from your locker.

My school let you bring food to the exams. I nearly strangled one of my dearest friends who started eating granola during our Con Law exam. It was REALLY noisy.

Some people brought snacks to our exams (like granola bars or whatever, usually). I brought a water bottle to mine.

I brought coffee, a water, and a muffin/scone to every exam that I took. However, Northwestern did have self-scheduled exams for every exam outside of the traditional 1L classes, so the rules might have been different for us.

I've eaten entire subway sandwiches during class along with cookies and smoothies. No one gives a fuck, except the hungry guy next to you. Guard your chips.scifiguy wrote:Also, do people ever take a break and stretch or use the bathroom during law school exams?
But mostly just curious about the thread title's questions. Thanks.

I brought protein bars to each of my finals last semester along with a bottle of water and there wasn't any problem.

Re: Can/Do People Eat During Law Classes & Exams?
We had a strict no food in exams policy during 1L, but you could leave a lunch bag in the bathroom. I normally finished my exams in an hour and a half, then went to the restroom, had an apple or a pb sandwich, then came back and looked over my exam/corrected/added/etc. Worked for me. I think I take law school exams faster than most though.
Amen to the sub sandwich comment. I've never really resented the person eating, other than wishing I thought to bring general tso's.
During our three hour evidence class last quarter there were people who brought and shared snacks during the break. Quite fun really. Just don't be a jerk chewing with your mouth open or something.

There was a guy at school last year who would bring a cooler to every exam and crack a beer when the proctor called "Last 15 minutes."
