Brooklyn Housing vs. Finding an Apartment?

Hi,

Was wondering if a current or former BLS student could help me out. Is it worth it to pay to live in the housing provided by BLS? they look really nice, but there are cheaper options available. Being that I'm not very familiar with the area, some input from someone with experience would be great. Thanks!
