Non-End-of-Semester-Final Exam Assignments in LS?

Post by ksllaw » Thu Nov 15, 2012 11:04 pm

THE CHAMP, Jr. is backkkkkkk!

Just kidding there. heh heh. I was paying TLS homage to another poster who has used "the champ is back" intro. before, lol.

This is actually a quick and easy question:

What types of law school assignments (graded or otherwise) have you guys had besides the standard end-of-the-semester final exam? I've come to understand that this single graded, end-of-semester final exam format is quite typical of law school classes, but am wondering what types of situations you may have come across where you guys and gals actually did have assignments other than that final?

Did any of you, for example, ever have to do a research paper? Did you have quizzes? Any short papers?

Continue to appreciate people's insights and help here!!! And all the best to you guys preparing for finals coming up soon!!!! :D

If you're taking seminars, then there's normally a large end of semester research project. Or sometimes there are short papers due every week.

I know of one "core" lecture-based class at my school that has weekly 3 page papers (to prove you've done/understand the reading) and no final exam.

There are also practical skills classes where you just do whatever the class is about every week. Like take a class in contract drafting and you regularly draft contracts, no final. Or take a class in mediation and you do mock-mediations.

Or you could take clinics. They may have a seminar component with the typical seminar papers, and then the clinical component is ungraded - you just have to log X hours.

I only have 1 final this semester. Every other class is a research paper. 3lol

But 1l you probably will only have traditional end of semester exam classes
