Law students, compared to PhD students, at least consistently shower, so I find them much more tolerable on average. This probably clouds my judgment on their level of doucheness.

I don't think it's fair to lump all PhD candidates together.

Someone getting a PhD is chemical engineering is unlikely to be as big a douchebag as someone getting a PhD is musicology (which is a thing, they have a whole program at Berkeley, and it is every bit an exercise in pretension as it sounds).

Musicology is usually just a fancy name for music history and literature, which isn't quite as bad as it sounds. Granted, they are pretentious enough to call it "musicology" and it obviously reflects poor judgment that they are spending years of their life getting a degree in fucking music history.
