Question about using a Mac/Pages/iPad in law school
Like many of you, I am a Mac addict. But I am wondering whether anyone actually advises using a program like Pages instead of Word in law school. The cool thing about it is it is pretty easy to use Pages for papers, outlining, etc., and then sync with iCloud. But, most people use Word and I'm pretty sure that's the standard. So has anyone used Pages and had a good experience? Would anyone advise against it?
Also, has anyone made good use of an iPad in law school? For instance, do you read opinions, type notes, etc. on an iPad?
Thanks!

Re: Question about using a Mac/Pages/iPad in law school
I've used Pages fairly extensively. I made all of my outlines in Pages, and in any classes where laptops were allowed, I took notes in Pages. For finals, I used pages, converted to .doc right before submitting, and had no problems.
Pages, though, does funky things to formatting, at times. For journal work, or when writing papers with extensive footnotes, I use Word exclusively.

Nobody is interested in the opinion of a 0L. My legal employer this summer uses Macs.presidentk1 wrote:the corporate and legal worlds are windows users

OP, I'd say the majority of my classmates this year used a Mac, and they all seemed to have good things to say about Pages.

this isnt a law school question its a general computing question
no respectable firm with an IT dept. that knows its shit uses macs
they cost twice as much for half the specs and cant fully connect with windows/linux servers
or what about when you get sent an excel spreadsheet that is formatted a certain way, the second you open it up in apple's office suite the whole formatting goes to hell
so Bildungsroman, instead of being a jackass how about listening to the input of others especially when even though someone might be a 0L, they could have a strong tech background and be much more fluent in said matters in comparison to a 3L that doesn't know the difference between a keyboard and a mouse

God, Pages sucks, but so do many of the Word versions.... But in terms of law school particularly, no, shouldn't be a problem at all. If you want to take your notes in some SciFi Startrek programming language it wouldn't make a bit of difference....

Re: Question about using a Mac/Pages/iPad in law school
I'm bored, so why not.
1TB Hard drive
4 GB Memory (4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM)
27 inch screen (2560 x 1440 resolution)
2.7GHz Intel Core i5 Processor
Price: $1,599
Find me a computer that costs $800 with twice as fast of a processor, 8GB memory, 2TB Hard drive and at least a 27" screen and I'll admit that your comment wasn't complete bullshit.
Or to keep it in laptops:
MBP:
2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 Processor
8GB 1600MHz memory
750GB Hard drive
Price: $1,399

...guys, he already has a Mac. Unsure why the PC/Mac debate is at all relevant.
The only times I've seen people use iPads in class is to bring up a PDF, never to type. I saw people using Pages, Word, and Circus Ponies. You'll figure out a system for whatever you decide on and it'll be fine, pick whichever you like best.
