Summer after 1L...what should I do? Forum

Headed to T-14 in the fall. How important is it that I get a summer associate job during the summer after 1L? I ask because I have the opportunity to come back next summer (after my 1L) and make about 50K in three months in a totally unrelated job. Obviously, I don't want to jeopardize my long-term future for seasonal work...hopefully I have a choice between an SA position and the job. Any advice?

You aren't expected to get an SA after 1L, but you are expected to do something legal.
(An SA probably won't be an option ... you'll likely be choosing between a judge/non-profit/gov't and your job offer ... I'd still play it safe and go with something legal)

If you have a shot at 50k for the summer take that and get a research assistant position with a professor. You can prob do most of the work on weekends and do it remotely.

It's a seasonal position...and it's not something I enjoy doing...
