Value in Specialized Legal Writing Sections
I am a 0L that will be attending Loyola Chicago in the fall. LUC has an opportunity for 1Ls to participate in specialized legal writing sections (Health Law, Child Law, IP, etc), which I found to be interesting. Is there any value in taking the IP section as a way to try to stand out when the 1L job search comes around? The section is by application only, so part of me is slightly concerned with the risk of massive gunning in the section, but I am curious to gather the thoughts of the masses on this one. Does the potential reward of having a specialized focus outweigh the risk of being in an application only section?

No edge. Its just a marketing ploy by the school. Ask yourself if Loyola grads are being hired at higher rates than similarly ranked schools in the area.

It would be a cover letter line / something to talk about in interviews. But your science background will be way more important as far as getting employers to notice you.
If you are interested in IP I say go for it.

true, no boost relative to other schools, but maybe a boost (as a way of demonstrating interest) when competing amongst your peers?MrAnon wrote:No edge. Its just a marketing ploy by the school. Ask yourself if Loyola grads are being hired at higher rates than similarly ranked schools in the area.
