Govt/National Defense into Private/Business

Hey guys

my question is,

not even necessarily about Employment opportunities based on ones experience working in dod or something,

but what kind of things would one have "learned" or obtained to make him/her more prepared, attractive, or etc for
ANYTHING in private practice, not necessarily law firm hiring.

anyone got input?
