It's a black box for most. If you're well liked by certain members, though, you'll have a chance to glean some insights.

Do you mean writing on through the journal tryout or getting a note accepted in one of the pools? If the latter, I wouldn't really be able to offer much. A Notes Editor would be more qualified, but none of them frequent this site.

It seems fine. I think it's improved steadily since I arrived in the summer of 2009. The OGI that took place that year was a true bloodbath; don't be fooled by c/o '13 folks attempting to bemoan their situation.
