What are your thoughts on accepting a GRA Position

Have any of you had (or known anyone who has had) a GRA (Graduate Research Assistant) position in law school that paid for tuition? Do you feel like the workload is too much? Is it worth it? Do you think it gives you a competitive edge over other students who don't have the same research experience?

Any input would be great.
