Re: UC Hastings 3L Taking Questions!
Thanks for reviving this! I know you talked about this in another thread, but I'd love for you or any other current students to talk about job prospects. This is my biggest concern in attending any school, and while I know I shouldn't use anecdotes to make my decision, that 48% employment rate at graduation listed in USNews this year is a terrifying statistic. Any chance you can relieve my fears?UCH3L! wrote:Ask anything you'd like to know about UC Hastings

Can you talk a bit about campus safety and the area in general? Do you feel safe if you are there later in the evening? Thanks.

I am on campus most evenings and yes, I do feel safe being there. The buildings themselves are very secure (the Hastings police do a great job). There are security cameras everywhere and getting into the buildings requires student ID, a bar card, or a visitor's sticker. It's the area around campus that is sketchy. No matter the time of day I make sure to be aware of my surroundings if I am walking to/from campus and I never have my phone out or headphones in.Cavgirl wrote:Can you talk a bit about campus safety and the area in general? There is a shuttle van that runs every night that will drop you off anywhere about a mile away from school. There's also an SFPD officer every night available for foot escorts to the BART station, the parking garage, or to the student housing (the tower) down the block.
It's a nasty area and I was worried about this when considering the school myself. But as long as you're smart about it you shouldn't run into any trouble.

I didn't realize that the Tower is so close to campus. Bing Maps puts it at a block away! However, my residence is about 2 miles away and I wouldn't want to walk all the way there at night with an expensive laptop. How do I go about gettting the bus service that ill take me a mile in whichever direction I want to go? I think walking a mile is going to be better than 2 late at night.UCH3L! wrote:I am on campus most evenings and yes, I do feel safe being there. Re: UC Hastings 3L Taking Questions!
I realized no one ever answered the question about how to go about using the free shuttle. It leaves every half hour in front of the 200 McAllister building (where the library is) starting at 6pm (or 5pm after daylight savings time) until 11pm, which is when the library closes. Whenever the library is open for extended hours ie finals, the shuttle hours are also increased. If you want the shuttle to pick you up from the Tower instead, you can call and have them stop by there. I assume you made your decision for which law school you will be going to, but just wanted to answer that in case anyone else comes across this page and is curious!
If anyone is looking for housing, I would take this into consideration- it is amazingly convenient. It drops you off at your door and you don't have to worry about unpredictable bus lines.
