Thought I would bump this thread for the new cycle. Any current Bama students willing to answer questions?

I have a question: Why did Alabama send me an email about a fee waiver on today, Sunday. That's odd, right?

Hey jennylynn, or any of you guys who are planning to attend the university, if you plan to make a campus visit, by yourself, from far away, and need to find accommodation near campus, check out --LinkRemoved--. There are a lot of choices, there. This helped my sister, and I hope it will help you too.

What are job prospects like outside of the Southeast? I have heard that a lot of people flock to Birmingham and a lot of Atl firms and the like have not wanted to interview on-campus because most of the higher ranked students have an interest in going to Birmingham. This, I think, was back in 06-07 that this information came from. What are employment prospects like?

Also, I have also heard the median starting salary is lower than equivalently-ranked schools, but that just may be due to the fact it is in the South.

Any truth to either of these?

I am not a current student, but to answer your second question about salary:

Yes, the posted median salary is lower than other similarly ranked schools. However, 70% of the class ends up in Alabama. Firms pay about $20-30K less a year in AL, but cost of living is much much lower than places like Atlanta or New York. In other words, controlling for cost of living, they are probably making the same as graduates from similarly ranked schools. Also, keep in mind that the cost of tuition is much lower than similarly ranked schools as well.

In addition, my impression at least from visiting on ASD was that a large segment of the student body goes into public interest positions, which would also bring down the median salary.

In conclusion, I would not be concerned about that statistic. I do not know much about the placement outside of AL, however.

Anyone have updated OCI information on the school? I could call Career Services but...thought I'd check first. I'm from Alabama but I don't know how much I want to STAY (or be forced to stay) in Alabama.

Looked at their "Firms Visited" from 07, and it was 49 compared to UGA's 149. Obviously things are changing, but how much?
