Hey guys,
I'm an incoming Vanderbilt student with little knowledge about laptops. I'm looking for a quality PC to use for schoolwork/research/pictures/occasional tv show. I don't game or do anything that requires amazing graphics. Looking to spend around $1000...or less. Any advice?
Thanks!

There are a substantial number of computers in that price range.
Go to Best Buy or something.
I got a Sony Vaio, 4 gigs of ram, HD screen, blu ray player and a 500gig hard drive for $850 on sale. It also had Windows 7 which I would highly recommend.
The only other thing you'd need is Microsoft Office 2007, but I think they actually have a free downloadable version online now. Ask your store rep.
I'd also recommend something light with a long battery life --no larger than a 15.4 inch screen.
