Pretty sure most state's C&F boards are not thrilled with law students threatening law suits against businesses, let alone getting "meaner" with punitives..

What a tool. You can just dispute the charges with the bank and they'll force the merchant to provide receipts. If your signature doesn't match/isn't there, then you'll almost certainly get your money back. I'm sure hope he wrote that initial message while he was drunk.

He needs to learn how credit cards work. He must be a dumbass not to know to report it as lost and dispute the charges.

That bar owner was surprisingly polite. If some little shit had come into my bar and blamed his own mistake on my employees, I probably couldn't be as nice.
