I did this a couple times, i dunno if it helped, but I did get admitted right after I called the last time.HungryHippo wrote:Hi guys, hopeful 0L here.
I sent my app in early January and have yet to hear back from IUB. It is my top choice and I hope to make a decision soon. Would it be in bad taste if I called the admissions office and asked about the status of my application?

This is 100% fine to do. I did it.HungryHippo wrote:Hi guys, hopeful 0L here.

IU is mostly great during the admissions process, except for the fact that they don't bother telling applicants that their file is complete. At least, that was my experience and I've seen others say the same.

Re: Indiana University - Bloomington 1L's taking questions
I'd call them. They get plenty of calls about it, you wouldn't be crossing any line. It's their job. Plus, it would help any confusion. I got an email telling me about apartments and such around IU before I ever got my acceptance letter.
I think the deadline last year was April 1st, so maybe the date has changed or you will get a decision after some people have turned down the school.

I've seen many a story on these boards about people who get news of their admission shortly after making this phone call. Some even of people being told of their acceptance during said phone call.

Re: Indiana University - Bloomington 1L's taking questions
Thank you for your responses!
I should have asked you guys earlier. I called them this morning and it turns out there was a problem with my application. Well not my application per se, but it was stuck somewhere. It is now being forwarded for review.
Sorry to pester you guys with application questions, but do you guys think that my application being reviewed so late will hurt my chances? Will the people reviewing my application know that I applied early January.
I'm getting really nervous because I don't really want to commit to any of the schools I have already got into. Indiana is still my top choice. Do you guys think I should tell them that or would I come off as too desperate?

Mabye write and email an LOCI that explains all that info? I dont know you dont want to bother them too much but it seems like that might be ok.

Re: Indiana University - Bloomington 1L's taking questions
Writing a "LOCI" might be a good idea, but it wouldn't be your usual LOCI. It would be more like, "regarding our call the other day, I'm glad to hear I'm still being considered, I am very interested in IU, my (/one of) my top choices, etc."
Will it hurt you or do they know when you filed it?
The problem here is that they have already given away those early (easier) spots that you tried so hard to get by filing early. The best you can hope for now is some sympathy on the part of the adcomms who hopefully see that they F'd up. This might be a reason to get the "LOCI" into your file, if you can find a tactful way to remind them that the only reason your app is being reviewed so late is that they lost it.
Damn, I'd be pissed.

Unrelated note: I am fairly confident that I will have a room to rent out next year starting in the summer. I also might be willing to rent out for 3 months in the summer for a summer starter who wants to scope out the area before committing. PM me if interested.

Re: Indiana University - Bloomington 1L's taking questions
I posted this question in the "In at IU-Bloomington" thread but I figured I'd ask it here as one of you 1L's might know. I see on the schedule for SLD on Saturday there is a "career fair with Indiana Alumni". Does anyone know what this entails?
Maybe this is a stupid question, but when I think career fair, I think of walking around to different "booths" selling yourself to potential employers. I'm not sure if this is that same sort of thing, but I certainly want to be prepared for whatever this involves. With this just being an admitted students day, I don't know what to expect with this "career fair".

From the sound of it, it's probably more like the 1L career choices series where they tell you what their job is like and give you tips on making the most of law school to get where they are.Threepeat wrote:I posted this question in the "In at IU-Bloomington" thread but I figured I'd ask it here as one of you 1L's might know. Re: Indiana University - Bloomington 1L's taking questions
They bring in some alums who talk about what they do, then they set them loose in the halls for you to corner and interrogate/question. They gave way too much time for it last year. It's just so you can hear from alums, and ask them questions you might want answers for about jobs or something. If you have no questions, you should just check out town. I skipped out on something that sounded like a total waste of time.Threepeat wrote:I posted this question in the "In at IU-Bloomington" thread but I figured I'd ask it here as one of you 1L's might know. Edit: I found your itinerary. I am pretty sure I skipped all that "Breakout" stuff. You will figure out by lunch that they allow for an ample amount of time, and you can decide whether or not you are OK with it.

Yeah I agree with all of this, that's a really crappy break you caught. Very much hope you get in.agentcom wrote:Writing a "LOCI" might be a good idea, but it wouldn't be your usual LOCI. I'm not sure if it's a crappy break. I would expect them to bump him up with consideration towards misplacing his app (if they misplaced it... all I know is it was misplaced). With deadlines coming up in like 5 days, I would bet a bunch more offers will be sent out in about a week, with this poster at the top. As long as the prior assumption is correct.Unjust Enrichment wrote:

And UJ, you need a profile pic. I totally just got one, and it has been the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Re: Indiana University - Bloomington 1L's taking questions
Once again, thank you for all your inputs. I sent a LOCI to them explaining my situation.
I too hope my application gets sent to the top and accepted.

It makes me laugh that it seems like all of the prospective students visiting are put in WIlliams con law class. It seems like just about every day someone is in there.
Its not a good sign when there are only 4 weeks of class left and Ive yet to be cold called in any class this semester. I think Im gonna get hit with the trifecta in all three classes sometime soon.

Man, I wish I checked this yesterday. I would have given them the address of that birthday grill out thing and had the 0L's crash it.
