Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
Any insight on Braga's White Collar Criminal Defense Seminar? Possible to get an A for a 2L gunning for clerkship grades? I know it i a seminar, but there are like 60 people in this class. There has to be some sort of curve, right? I am really interested in the class and practice area, but will find other ways of exploring it if he just B+'s everyone.

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
The money you get is more than enough. Cville is a pretty cheap town. You can get a two bedroom for between 750-850 on Arlington. Splitting that in half makes rent for a whole year to be around 5k (which doesn't factor in money you will make over the summers).Lions1913 wrote:According to UVA Law's website, cost of living (not including books and health insurance) is $16,560. My guess is that a pretty big portion of that is rent. I've heard from a few sources, however, that it is possible to live in a house with 5-6 people, so the rent of course becomes lower. That said, how accurate is $16,560, and what is realistically possible to live on (still living decent though)?

$4,000 of that figure is beer money.Lions1913 wrote:According to UVA Law's website, cost of living (not including books and health insurance) is $16,560. Kidding but not kidding. $12,000 would be perfectly comfortable if you are at all frugal and don't have major car payments. You can return it at the end of the year, or borrow less originally (you can get additional disbursements several times throughout the semester if you need more). Also, the extra 4k might come in handy if you don't get summer funding or if you need to buy a professional wardrobe, etc.

Keep in mind that you may be working an unpaid internship your 1L summer, which can be quite pricey if you aren't living at home with the parents.

Heard from someone, who heard from someone, that so many people complained to Student Records about both the class and the exam that they may make it pass/fail (may explain why grades are still not up). No idea as to the validity of that, but curious if anyone has heard anything else.californiabeauar wrote:what kind of Thatcher rumors are you looking for? whether to take the class? I haven't heard of any of those rumors but I would believe it.
For those of you wondering wtf am I talking about--> I can say that it was the longest and most difficult exam I have ever taken (I'm top 25% so I'm not dumb, me thenkz) and now that I think about it, maybe I should complain to SRO? I went to every class and took notes. Combined with the fact that he cannot teach and his racist and sexist remarks, it was the worst class I have EVER taken. Not sure why he's allowed to lecture. Most of the people I talked to were extremeley pankicy after the test.

Does anyone know the grading rules for independent research? Is it possible to get an A+?
If so, why would not everyone do that?

never heard of anyone getting an A+ but it doesn't really matter because A's are attainable and even if you go to 18k words to get the 3 credits the difference between a 4.3 and a 4.0 over 3% of your graduation credits is functionally zero (0.002 of your graduation date gpa)

Does anyone have any insights on White and Abrahams Torts class? It's a relatively small class <20 and its hard to ascertain much from the reviews. Is it hard to get above a B+ in the class? Anyone have any recommendations on study habits to do well in the class?

Same. I am only aware of one person that got above a b+, and I've asked a lot. How is that even possible? He fucked with some really high gpas too. The guy is a clown who needs to never be allowed back at uva.Tgoin wrote:Grades are up.
