How small does a class have to be for there to be no mandatory curve?
Or is that not a thing?

I don't think there are any uncurved classes. I took a short course with like 6 people in it that was still curved.Br3v wrote:How small does a class have to be for there to be no mandatory curve?

The fewer people, the more likely the curve could be dramatically adjusted for the avg student GPA, though

Yep. I mean, they can be adjusted to the mean student GPA, I think, if the professor wants to, but they are still curved.Br3v wrote:Paper courses too?5ky wrote:I don't think there are any uncurved classes. Might as well join in on this! Any thoughts on Jason Johnston for Contracts, Anne Coughlin for Criminal Law, and John Duffy for Torts?

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
Armacost is going to make you work. She does not allow laptops in class so you better be awake and engaged for class on just your notebook. And for God's sake do your reading because she cold calls and will stay on you and let you struggle through it even if you obviously haven't read. But I loved her class all the same because I came away feeling like I learned.hopinandprayin wrote:Any thoughts on these 1L professors? Thanks for your help!

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
Heytens for CivPro, Mahoney for Contracts and Coughlin are Crim are all just about as good as you can get.
Mahoney will tell you, but his exams are short and he will want your answers to be short. It was by far my shortest non word-limited exam

To be honest, you'll probably be reading, but a lot of people sleep in the Klaus reading room. 2nd floor library.steelythews wrote:Best place to sleep at or very near the law school during my 4 hour break between classes?

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
Seconding this. A lot of 1Ls, myself included, took that time to read or do assignments. I was actually probably most productive during the class break hours.Br3v wrote:To be honest, you'll probably be reading, but a lot of people sleep in the Klaus reading room. 2nd floor library.steelythews wrote:Best place to sleep at or very near the law school during my 4 hour break between classes?

That's a pretty sweet schedule. Geis is one of the best lecturers at UVA (his cold calls can be somewhat tough though), Coughlin is also widely considered to be great. Rutherglen is amusing (though honestly not the clearest conveyer of information) and very low-key. Barzun is well-liked, but I don't know much about him.sl5uw13 wrote:What about

Coughlin was really entertaining and clearly is an expert on crim law. I thought her lecturing could have been more clear though.sl5uw13 wrote:What about

Ware was great, she's super nice, and presented information in a way that made it really easy to grasp. although that could just be because its LRW haha.
I loved Barzun's teaching style. outlines up on the board before each class, and wrap ups at the end of each segment. for cold calling, he picks someone at random each day and then just goes down the line. sticks with you for maybe 2-5 mins and moves on.

Any recommended Corporations supplement? I think Professor Kordana is using copy center materials this semester, so can't match it to a book or anything.

if it's anything like Contracts, it won't be copy center materials - it'll be PDFs of cases on the course website. Nothing else.WahooLaw24 wrote:Any recommended Corporations supplement? I think Professor Kordana is using copy center materials this semester, so can't match it to a book or anything.

Sorry for the double post.
Who do I talk to if my mailbox is suddenly missing after they reorganized mailboxes for 1Ls?

Maybe a stupid question. Can someone explain to me how to pay my bill on quikpay using my loans? The only options I see are for a echeck or credit card.

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
When the grade book was available, at least one (small) clinic was all B+. Someone asked a similar question and I took a look. I don't think there was any class that had eight or more students that didn't have a curve.5ky wrote:I don't think there are any uncurved classes. You don't, it's just applied automatically when it comes through. If you've already accepted all your loans, you should be on track as far as I understand. if you didn't do your FAFSA until late and don't have your aid yet, you need to talk to financial aid ASAP.Gooner91 wrote:

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
