I did notice that. It's like a $400 difference. Are the extra programs and loner program with the bundle probably not worth?First Offense wrote:Way cheaper to get it yourself.Gooner91 wrote:How do you guys feel about the law school computer bundles?

For the specs of the computer, it's not that much more.Gooner91 wrote:I did notice that. That particular laptop is $1200 retail, and 3 years of AppleCare is $250. So it's like $150 extra.
I still don't think it's particularly worth it, but it's not THAT unreasonable. I did have AppleCare, which helped me get two new powercords for free.

Totally worth it for the availability of the loaner.Gooner91 wrote:I did notice that. Let me be a cautionary tale. I did not get the law school computer bundle. Last semester, my MacBook broke down three (or was it four?) times, leaving me without a computer for over a week every time I sent it away to be fixed. One of the times it broke down was during an exam, which almost left me without a reliable laptop for the rest of the exam period, because PeachMac was out of loaners (which I think I would have had to pay for, anyway). A friend who had already taken all of his exams was willing to let me borrow his laptop but, as you can imagine, it was stressful. In retrospect, it would have been worth $150 to have a guaranteed reliable loaner whenever my laptop was out of commission.

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
I suppose its possible $150 is worth it if you are risk averse. $400 is clearly not. If your laptop broke at an inopportune time, in a way you could not fix, then you could literally buy one just to take exams on for $400.plenipotentiary wrote:Totally worth it for the availability of the loaner.Gooner91 wrote:I did notice that. I had a friend who had laptop problems during exams. He just went to Best Buy, bought a nicer laptop then he had, took his exams on the nice new shiny laptop, and then returned it do Best Buy for a full refund by returning it within 14 days. #winning

I guess some of the value will come from your comfort with computers. I don't use Apple so I can't speak to the specifics of that, but their Windows prices are ridiculous. You'd be better off getting something off of newegg or tigerdirect.

The price difference is $150, though, not $400. The laptop comes with three years of applecare which is the extra $250.Heat wrote:

So you may not want three years of applecare, but it's not like you're just paying $400 extra dollars for the loaner program

Cordell Faulk was just named Dean of Admissions, and Richard's bio has magically disappeared from the UVA website.LadyMary wrote:What? How did you find this out?pertristis wrote:Any idea why Ann Richard left/was fired?

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
i don't think it was that surprising that we were getting a new dean of admissions (saw references to this somewhere a while ago), but i don't remember seeing why richard was leaving. she's only been there since 2011 when trujillo got bumped into the foundation role, and i think she was at GW before that. seems like a relatively high turnover job, either by institutional design or by what doors a few years will open. trujillo was in charge from 08-11, then richard 11-14...
richard's the one that let me in though, so shout out to her. i'll pour out a little red bull for her reign of questionable decisions that worked out for me

I don't know why Richards is gone, but Cordell got the job 100% because of his dance moves at Libelpertristis wrote:Cordell Faulk was just named Dean of Admissions, and Richard's bio has magically disappeared from the UVA website.LadyMary wrote:What? I'm pretty sure that she's just retiring and has been planning to all semester.pertristis wrote:Cordell Faulk was just named Dean of Admissions, and Richard's bio has magically disappeared from the UVA website.LadyMary wrote:What? Cordell is the man. Excellent human being and nice guy. Also, from what I understand Richard 's leaving has been public knowledge for awhile.

Sorry to hear Anne is leaving, but Cordel is, indeed, the man. I'm sure the office is in good hands.

Dean Richard was planning on leaving at the end of the semester to be close to old and/or sick family members. Sad to see her leave, but really glad Cordel was chosen to replace her.pertristis wrote:Any idea why Ann Richard left/was fired?

Does anyone here know how Charlottesville compares to Burlington, Vermont? With my limited knowledge it seems as though it is very similar but with better weather.
Thanks
