Parking is hard to find and expensive, cars get broken into not infrequently, and you don't need a car to either get into or get around DC. There is precious little you can't reach via metro, Uber, cab, etc.RParadela wrote:Another question.. Did you guys bring up cars during your 1L?

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
I did. I lived on campus 1L and commute 2L. The garage is like $900/semester which is painful but actually not that bad for an urban school. You can absolutely make do without the car, but if you can swallow the garage fee it might be worth it. I needed my weekend trips to the suburbs/country for my 1L sanity, but I grew up on a farm so YMMV.RParadela wrote:Another question.. Did you guys bring up cars during your 1L?

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Coming from NY, $900 for a garage per semester doesn't sound bad at all.
I heard the traffic is horrible and there are problems with parking, though.

Also your window will get smashed in if you street park and look like you have anything of value in your carThelaw23 wrote:Coming from NY, $900 for a garage per semester doesn't sound bad at all.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
School parking in Philly was something like $3000/y so I don't think it's bad. If you do daily parking you're taking your life in your hands, but if you get a spot in Gewirz you shouldn't have any problems. It can take 45min to drive 3 mi in rush hour, but the DC area is very drivable as long as you avoid peak times.Thelaw23 wrote:Coming from NY, $900 for a garage per semester doesn't sound bad at all.

I'm too midwestern to not have a car. Hardly use it but it's there. I pay for garage parking at my apartment complex though and very occasionally the $9 to daily park at school

I believe it gets posted on Canvas.thelincolnlawyer wrote:How will we get our take-home memo grade and multiple choice exam grade for LRW? Assuming it won't be on MyAccess since we don't get a full grade for the class until spring.
ETA: there's (also?) a "raw score" or midterm grade thing on MyAccess IIRC.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
I think it's professor specific -- my LRW professor gave a numerical score for our memo & multiple choice test. She then gave us a chart that showed the grade we would have rec'd if the semester was graded by itself. Something like this: 1-7: B-; 8-12: B, 13-16 B+, etc. However, take that hypothetical grade with a grain of salt -- my final grade was much different (as were many others in my class). My numerical score was posted on myaccess under midterm grades.thelincolnlawyer wrote:How will we get our take-home memo grade and multiple choice exam grade for LRW? GULC has several unique negotiation features. Listen and hark well:lawschool2017712 wrote:Any tips on scholarship negotiations with GULC specifically. Would be awesome to hear that process went.
First, do not email or call on the day before the full moon. As you should well know, most Adcomm members are lycanthropes and fast right before their monthly hunt of manflesh. Accordingly they will be quite cranky and are generally less inclined to negotiate.
If you come bearing gifts, please note that GULC admissions staff like lilies, but hate roses. NU likes daisies, but cannot abide lilies. Cornell adores roses, but hates tulips. Duke admissions staff hate daisies but will tolerate any plant that has tasted blood.
Do NOT offer bodily sacrifices (either body parts or the services of your body) unless you are prepared to deliver. While most schools recognize such offers as a mere formality, GULC will expect you to hold up to your end of the bargain and there have been some messy disputes as a result.
Finally, never EVER look Dean Cornblatt directly in the eyes. He takes it as a sign of aggression and will gore you.

Now as a 3L and having taken numerous law school exams, I am still 100% convinced my Torts exam was the best exam I have written (and am pretty sure by a good maegin). I got a B. Don't sweat it, and welcome to the joy of law school grading.ladybug1989 wrote:Got my first grade back and it was a B. I thought it was one of my better exams too. Thanks. I feel better. I'm a 2L (transferred) and I was very good at predicting my grades at my previous law school, but I understand this is a whole different ball game.TheSpanishMain wrote:Thelaw23 wrote:
I know this is a very old TLS meme, but try not to stress. As I'm sure you know, there's often not a relationship between how you feel about an exam and how you actually did. I'm sure you did better than you think on one of your other exams to compensate for this one.BmoreOrLess wrote:ladybug1989 wrote:

BTW this system of releasing grades as they become available sucks. I'd rather cry in one sitting.

I talked to a career services advisor and she confirmed that I'd be eligible for 2L OCI if I tacked on any LLM degree (for anyone interested in the future). But fwiw she really emphasized that I should do tax.BmoreOrLess wrote:I only know for sure about Tax, but I'm willing to bet that's the only one eligble for 2L OCI as far as joint LLM's you can tack on later.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
I brought my car for 1L; was living Columbia Heights that year, and found myself using it mostly to get groceries. DC is not that big, parking is terrible in most neighborhoods (either impossible to find or absurdly expensive), and you can get around easily enough with metro and uber. Also why do you have a car if you're coming from NYC???

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
The only difference is that by way of opening move they invite you to explain to them why you are worthy of money, instead of just awarding you some like other schools do, but after that it's the exact same process - you tell 'm you need more, you tell 'm what other awards you've gotten, and repeat this for several rounds until there doesn't appear to be a chance of getting morebuckiguy_sucks wrote:My experience was that it is the same as every other school you will be negotiating withlawschool2017712 wrote:Any tips on scholarship negotiations with GULC specifically. Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
yeah you get a "raw score" via myaccess and if your LRW prof is nice you'll be provided with a table indicating what that score translates intousn26 wrote:I believe it gets posted on Canvas.thelincolnlawyer wrote:How will we get our take-home memo grade and multiple choice exam grade for LRW? That's because all other LLM programs are literally worthless (at least for non-foreign attorneys) and suggest "bad judgment" more than "highly educated".ladybug1989 wrote:I talked to a career services advisor and she confirmed that I'd be eligible for 2L OCI if I tacked on any LLM degree (for anyone interested in the future). Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
No grades yet for me but I, for one, want nothing to do with a school where getting an A reflects some amount of effort or ability, and will not stand for it.WhiskeyAndCupcakes wrote:Got my first grade back. It's a class where spreadsheets reflecting old curves show the prof tends to have a generous curve. This year, the curve was less generous and reflected the Georgetown curve almost exactly.
Just wondering: has this happened in other classes where you all are getting grades back? I'm trying to figure out if the exams in this class just weren't as strong as usual or if the administration is cracking down more on professors' grading curves and making them grade on the Georgetown curve. If it's the latter, then that sucks.
Mirror-fogging tests only plz.
