A cap on law student enrollment at Kellogg does not equal a 25 person class. Also, I think that class is one with a mandatory curve.Man from Nantucket wrote:Considering taking accounting for decision making with Magee, anyone have experience with this class? It's capped at 25 people, so I'm assuming it will be uncurved?bdubs wrote:Kellogg recommends that professors follow a curve but doesn't require it for non "core" classes (finance, accounting, marketing). The curve is approx. 40% A, 50% B, 10% C (I think). Some profs throw the curve out entirely while others adhere to it pretty closely.captainplanet wrote:How tough is the Kellogg grading curve? Thinking of taking The Law of Real Estate Development and Finance with Dana but I know that the Kellogg classes don't do +/- grading so I'm hoping they give out a lot of As and not many Bs since I don't have much of a business background.
It is possible for a Kellogg prof to do +/- grading but they don't do it regularly. I think they sometimes do it to cut law students a break since they know grades matter more at the LS.

Passive aggressive much? The university promotes something called “work/life balance,” which basically requires us to have personal lives outside of the law school. To that end, we’re unavailable during evenings and weekends, but we’ll be able to answer emails and voicemails during the following business day.

Ah, the NU registrar's office...
(sets round 2 bidding for Fri-Tues)
(Informs student body that "Caesar will be down" from 7AM-6PM Saturday and to "plan accordingly")
I was lucky and got all my classes Round 1, but lolwtf

Extremely obnoxious and insulting at at the same time. Perhaps that Kellogg Frosh intern that they have writing this stuff needs to take the upper division course in communications. The university promotes something called “work/life balance,” which basically requires us to have personal lives outside of the law school. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't during this particular week. Their schedule picks up around this time of year which sucks for them but is doubly worse for us.

What does this mean, exactly? That we're only supposed to email or call during work hours? Or did someone demand an immediately answer? So many questions.Big Dog wrote:Extremely obnoxious and insulting at at the same time. You guys sound like entitled assholes. Why are we bothering the registrars office over the weekend? I don't expect responses to any email sent past 4pm. Not everyone subscribes to that biglaw lifestyle.

I agree (about not expecting responses outside of work hours), but I also think the email from the registrar's office was unnecessary and unprofessional. Unless the person it was sent to had been sending multiple pestering emails or something, and even if that was the case, there are better ways to respond.cookiejar1 wrote:You guys sound like entitled assholes. Exactly. A simple reminder, 'we are closed on the weekends', would have sufficed. Of course, the Registrar does not have to be working weekends and no one assumes that they should be. The idea of shutting down Cesar for maintenance during bidding, however, has nothing to do with work-life balance; rather it is a failure to plan.I agree (about not expecting responses outside of work hours), but I also think the email from the registrar's office was unnecessary and unprofessional.

Help needed from 2Ls and 3Ls! Do you all recommend getting the NU health insurance plan or going your own route? Any differences or major complications if you get your own? I am looking at some that are cheaper but match NU's requirements. But looking for any advice! Thanks!

I have my own and have been happy. One thing to keep in mind though, is that if you opt out you won't automatically get the loans budgeted for health insurance. You can still get the school to approve loans for health insurance, but you'll have to show them a statement showing how much you pay for your insurance. They won't just give you whatever Aetna costs and let you pocket the difference if yours is cheaper.desichhori wrote:Help needed from 2Ls and 3Ls! Anyone have thoughts on what kind of grader Professor Tiller is? Is he closer to the lots of points for a myriad of briefly explored issues or big picture I want to see a few well thought out things end of the spectrum? Does he want you to come to a conclusion or is it sufficient to move through the issues exploring both sides? I'm wondering for purposes of Contracts II.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Oh Thanks! Sent you a pm. please check!
So, I guess it just depends on the student whether they opt for Aetna or something else.

Is there a place where NU Law students or NU students in general buy and sell goods? I am looking for a study table and chair/dining table and chairs. Any links? Thanks!

If you're going to be a 1L, you'll be out on the listserv pretty soon, and lots of people buy and sell things on there. Also, craigslist.desichhori wrote:Is there a place where NU Law students or NU students in general buy and sell goods? I am looking for a study table and chair/dining table and chairs. Any links?
