What is the consensus among 2L's and 3L's on renting vs. buying 1L text books? Are they useful to have after the exams are taken?

I rented... never did it before, but staring down 160 bucks for used books made me say "fuck that".

Apparently, if your rent your books and decide you need to keep them, you can just pay the difference at the end of the semester.

Many classes say cant skip first class. It this just form? I have never had a prof take roll and am trying to schedule a callback on the first 3 days of class to get them done. I am guessing as long as I shoot the professor an email, it will be no big deal?

Torts- Abraham
Civ Pro- Sinclair
K's- Hellman
LRW- Moran

Also asking for advice for this

Abraham is an all-star. I heard mixed (leaning negative) reviews about F-M's Con Law class last year, but I have no idea how he is in Crim. Moran is amazing. She's makes the class seem demanding at first, but that's just to scare you into not being completely blowing it off. She's actually incredibly nice and helpful.

KFM is a really nice guy, just not very engaging. So Con Law got boring real fast sometimes. Abraham is great, though intimidating at times, and between 50-60% of his class gets B+ if I remember correctly.

Coughlin is simultaneously amazing and frustrating, in that she tends to let gunners run the class. Harrison is interesting - you'll figure out what I mean by that. There is no other way I can describe him.

Moran is the best LRW prof, but Buck is ok.

For Abraham's class, I'd recommend The Forms and Functions of Tort Law, written by an insightful fellow named Kenneth Abraham.

Seriously though, if you're in Abraham's class, do not read a single page of anything but the case book and Abraham's book. Anything else is worse than a waste of time.

You're underrating Buck. What you really need in LRW is someone who won't really make you do any work as long as you're respectful. Wanting to be a good LRW'er is gunnerish.

If you have Moran, she'd occasionally cold call about stuff in the text that she'd ask us to read. But only 2-3 times the whole year, if I remember. I bought it and then was able to sell back my copy on Amazon (in nearly new condition) for about $25.

Use Low's. I was never a fan of supplements, but if one of your professors has written one, you should always get it. Some professors will ask exam questions directly from their supplements...

I never opened the Lawyer's Craft once. It's a waste of money.

There is no supplement that can prepare you for Nelson's Civ Pro exam. He'll probably record all of his lectures, so you are honestly better off just going back and listening to stuff that isn't clear. Most civ pro supplements will oversimplify stuff to the extent that it will be useless to you.

As for Torts, Abraham's supplement is useful if there's going to be a policy oriented question. You really won't need to read it until closer to exam time, though.

Then, I go to the law school bookstore and browse supplements to see which one is best aligned with the professor's lectures. Then, I go to half.com or amazon.com to buy the previous revision of that supplement for about $5 + shipping.

The above is 100% true. Read Abraham's supplement along with the case book throughout the semester. During cold calls, he's often looking for the exact wording and sentiments that he wrote in the supplement.

Mitchell was the funniest professor I've ever had. That includes all four years of undergrad fwiw. Moreover he is very clear and gives great examples in class. But he gave like 80% of the class a B+ so if you're gunnerish and shooting for that "A" it might be difficult. If you're a slacker like I was, you'll appreciate it.

Also, we have an 8:50AM class on Friday? Followed by two more? Is this some sort of sick joke? That's 3 more Friday classes than I was expecting.

And this may be a stupid question, but is there a place online where we can see which books we need to get? The bookstore has them laid out by section, but there's gotta be an easier way than walking over there and writing each one down...

Choi is brilliant but absolutely sucks as a professor. Get a hornbook and teach that shit to yourself.

Is it too much work to take Crim Pro + Sec Reg + Sec'd Trans at the same time? My other classes are supposed to be easy/fluffy.
