Big Star has the best tacos I've had in Chicago, and they're very reasonably priced too.franklyscarlet wrote:Pilsen for real Mexican food, big star for fancy tacos, taco burrito house or the equivalent for "it's 2am put a burrito in my Facehole now." I've lived on the border and experienced lots of legit Mexican food, and chicago certainly doesn't have good Mexican places on every corner, but it's not the salsa desert Californians make it out to be.

There are lots of hole in the wall taco places in the more Hispanic neighborhoods that are fucking delicious.

Btw, nobody said the Silver Spoon for thai in streeterville. Fucking DIVE of a joint, but it is cheap, byob, and I love it. Get the red curry.

Gyu-kaku is a Japanese BBQ place where you grill your own meat. It's a chain, but it's pretty reasonable and good. They also have boats of beer. I highly recommend for group outings.lhanvt13 wrote:Anyway, what's a good place to eat around Streeterville, Gold Coast, or River North? looking for good taco places, anything mediterranean, thai, viet, or east asian.
Baisi Thai is pretty good. Nothing super special, but it's pretty good.
The Greek place (Greek Kitchen or something) in the hospital food court is pretty solid.
Definitely don't limit yourself to these neighborhoods for food though. Even expanding your search to Lincoln Park will add in a bunch of great restaurants.

My favorite Thai place in Chicago is Opart Thai. It's near Chinatown and kind of a pain to get to but worth it. I also like Siam Rice which is in the Loop. For somewhere close to campus, I like Silver Spoon. It's not the best Thai food in the world but it's cheap and close and most importantly BYOB.
For Vietnamese food, hit up the Argyle stop off the Red Line. I like Pho Viet cause it's good quality, fast and there are always seats. It's right next to Tank Noodle which I honestly think is overrated but always crowded cause it has good reviews on Yelp.

If you're up by Argyle to eat Asian food and you don't go to Sun Wah you're doing it wrong

Sun Wah for duck dinner, Hai Yen for 7 courses of beef, and Pho Lily for pho. If I could eat all 3 in one sitting, I would.Georgia Avenue wrote:If you're up by Argyle to eat Asian food and you don't go to Sun Wah you're doing it wrong
