Ken Doll, are you on the WL at Columbia? What do I have to do to make sure you get in?

Still on Hold. Tomorrow is supposedly the magic day though, so hopefully I'll have my real decision by then.
Jack, you got Frank Rositano that full-tuition ride to Columbia Law. I know you got something for me

For real. Well, I'm going to Rockefeller Center and taking the NBC Experience tour, then charging up to the executive offices. I'll see you all on the 9 o'clock news.

Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
Hey guys,
Can I get some input/breakdown about the different options available at the Columbia Law Housing on 115th/116th?
I am seeing five options:
1) 403 & 115th
2) 411 & 115th
3) 415 & 115th
4) 420 & 116th
Just some general comments on the price/condition/location of the options would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
I imagine they're going to be similarly priced since they're so close to the law school. I know rooms in 415 are around ~$1200.battlerifle13 wrote:Hey guys,

Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
On the housing app, if you choose "yes" for the question "are you requesting law school housing" does that mean you are asking specifically for NOT UAH? Or can you still be considered for normal UAH if you click yes?

Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
They're all the same. I live in the biggest room in an apartment in the 419 building (there is no 420) and I pay less than $1230 per month, all utilities included. I really like the location since I can roll out of bed at the last minute for class (or, you know, not), and the buildings are pretty nice compared to what I'm used to.battlerifle13 wrote:Hey guys,

Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
Is there any anecdotal evidence of admitted students receiving grant aid after they've submitted their seat deposits?
The May 1 deposit deadline is coming up, but I doubt I'll get a financial aid decision anytime soon. I would just wait until my extended deadline to enroll, but I'm worried that my housing application won't be considered until I've paid a deposit. If I deposit before receiving a financial aid decision, will I essentially be forfeiting any grant aid from CLS?

Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
I think it's a separate issue regarding the housing app though. I haven't seen anything that makes it clear whether or not housing applicants that haven't deposited yet are fully considered.tonton wrote:untar614 wrote:KingFish wrote:This is in my head too.smdpnp wrote:Is there any anecdotal evidence of admitted students receiving grant aid after they've submitted their seat deposits?

yeah, they said theyre doing it in the order received, but as long as you sent in your stuff in a timely basis (not sure what the cutoff for that is exactly) then you will receive a deposit deadline with your financial aid package, and don't have to worry about May 1st.
This is also on page 16 of the admitted students handbook! Found it today!

thanks for the infosmdpnp wrote:Called today. Your housing application will not be considered until you submit your seat deposit. Makes sense, but it's bad news for late admits who are still waiting on the FAO.

Any students know the boundaries that the SAFE shuttle operates within? I used to take it to 135th street but I don't think it goes up much farther than that

For any students: do you know anyone pursuing a dual JD/MPA or JD/MPP? Esp. with the WW school? I'm curious how this impacts student life & employment, and trying to get a sense of just how common it is.

Anyone know about loan disbursement dates for fall? I know UAH is pretty lax on late rent, but how does this sort of thing work with tuition/fees/etc?

Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
While I'm not a current student, I did ask one of the admissions deans about this and they gave me the impression that it's actually quite uncommon. Somewhere in the range of 3 per year (I think he was referring to the total of all the PP programs...so SIPA, HKS, and WW all included?) was the number I was given.jbagelboy wrote:For any students: do you know anyone pursuing a dual JD/MPA or JD/MPP? haven't run into anyone doing this.jbagelboy wrote:For any students: do you know anyone pursuing a dual JD/MPA or JD/MPP? Esp. with the WW school? I'm curious how this impacts student life & employment, and trying to get a sense of just how common it is.
I'm naturally very wary of dual degree programs for law students, so I imagine the reason so few people do it is because either they're (a) completely useless for everyone or (b) only useful for an incredibly small niche of people.

Is this a problem for people? Are you on the hook for tuition or anything while waiting for loans to disburse?Bronck wrote:end of augustbeepboopbeep wrote:Anyone know about loan disbursement dates for fall? nope. you only need to worry about [a] paying for the security deposit/first month rent and financing yourself for food/entertainment for the few weeks after you arrive.beepboopbeep wrote:Is this a problem for people? Re: Columbia 1L(s) taking questions
By pursuing a 4 year program, you will be thrown from the regular hiring model:jbagelboy wrote:For any students: do you know anyone pursuing a dual JD/MPA or JD/MPP? Esp. with the WW school? I'm curious how this impacts student life & employment, and trying to get a sense of just how common it is.
1L summer position (lucky SA, more likely something unpaid)
2L SA
3L offer at the firm of you 2L SA and select other firms you can show concrete interest in
I'm not sure what the consequences are of having that 4th year but know you won't be in this established model and your hiring cycle will be something different.

Any 1Ls in here choose Columbia over money Cornell? I have 60k at Columbia and 120k at Cornell, and I'm looking for people who have made a similar choice.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
