Do you know anything about the Brooklyn Law School-International Business Law fellowship? Qualifications/Credentials to be accepted?

Re: Brooklyn 1L Taking Questions...
what is 1L @bls like? i read from the school website that 1Ls take four classes: tort, civil procedure, criminal law and legal writing. is that the same for everyone? how often do classes meet? how long is each session?
also, what about workload? say the average amount of reading and time spent studying outside class?
are study groups popular? do u usually prepare case briefs or go over reading assignments with classmates beforehand?
is the final grade totally based on the final exam? or do you get graded on test or participation?
thank you for your time in advance!

All FT 1L's take the standard classes-torts, civpro, crimlaw, conlaw, property, K's and legal writing-each session depends on the class credit hoursloklinspirit126 wrote:what is 1L @bls like? i read from the school website that 1Ls take four classes: tort, civil procedure, criminal law and legal writing. is that the same for everyone? how often do classes meet? how long is each session?

There is nio average amount of reading-some people spend 1 hr a day, others 4, since everyone has different approaches. I didnt brief or read cases, just case briefs.
Finals are based completely on final exams (except for legal writing), although profs say participation can bump you up half a grade. However, that will likely never work out since there is a curve anyway.
In general, BLS 1L is probably like any other standard 1L class

I assumed, because of location, that BLS students have a ton of fun and lead fairly active social lives. Is this true?

Re: Brooklyn 1L Taking Questions...
I can answer this one. It's not that close to Williamsburg. I mean it's not geographically that far, but it's far enough that people who want to live in/near Williamsburg will not live there. However, the neighborhoods around the school have a certain maturing hipster/hipster parent contingent.snowpeach06 wrote:I assumed, because of location, that BLS students have a ton of fun and lead fairly active social lives. Wow, that's terrible. I think that's less than half of last year, which was already a huge drop.

Extremely. ADA in Manhattan has always been extremely sought after, as many Harvard, Columbia etc grads pursue that route when interested in PI. BLS historically places well in the ADA in Brooklynnol607 wrote:How challenging is it to get an ADA job in Manhattan out of BLS (or Cardozo)? Thanks.

Re: Brooklyn 1L Taking Questions...
I am new here, found this board from JDU which I am a regular on...I graduated from Bklyn a few years ago and now work as staff counsel at a mid sized law firm in midtown. I spent my 1L summer as a judicial intern for a federal judge in SDNY and 2L summer at the US Attorneys office in SDNY. I worked part time for 2 small firms in 2L and 3L...my first law firm job was secured in late August after I graduated and paid a pathetic 30k/year...now I make more money but to be honest it's still under 100k. My flaw was a low class rank and not passing the bar exam until several attempts...
I dont see hofstra, st johns, or Cardozo to be worse or better law schools. After Fordham, most law firms regard these local NYC schools the same..
Any other questions, feel free to ask...

I applied to Brooklyn and a few other schools and I have not been accepted to any yet so this is probably pre-mature, but would you consider Brooklyn a good choice for someone who is interested in IP law?

If by IP Law you mean instant poverty law (for BLS graduates that is), then yes BLS is a great choice.

Re: Brooklyn 1L Taking Questions...
No. The reality is that IP law is a "sexy" field in which there is extra-heavy competition for jobs. People from BLS make careers in it, but it's not common or easy, and if you don't have top grades it's unlikely you'll break into it out of school (fuck, even if you do it's unlikely).Gatorbull84 wrote:I applied to Brooklyn and a few other schools and I have not been accepted to any yet so this is probably pre-mature, but would you consider Brooklyn a good choice for someone who is interested in IP law?
