Thanks for taking questions!
How likely is it that you'll get your first choice 1L elective in spring?
And can you explain how getting classes/clinics works for 2Ls and 3Ls?

Re: NYU Rising 2L Taking Questions
It depends completely on the elective / professor. Corporations and ConLaw are highly bid on and you have a 50/50 shot or something to get in. Income tax, international law and property are much lower in demand and you have a 100% chance.fkt18 wrote:Thanks for taking questions!

I'm not in a clinic so can't speak to that much.
Classes is a point bidding system, and depending on where a class "clears" and how much you bid, you get it or you don't. I got all but 2 of the classes I requested for the whole 2014/15 year (barely missed out on those), but I'm pretty happy overall.

I'm also not in a clinic, but you basically apply and hope to get in. Most people do get in from what I hear.

Did any of you participate in 1L reading groups and (if so) what did you think?

Those are brand new this year, actually. I'm really jealous, it sounds like an amazing way to hang out and get to hear professors talk about what actually excites them. And it's a great low-pressure way to get to know professors, too.fkt18 wrote:Did any of you participate in 1L reading groups and (if so) what did you think?

Favorite places to eat/grab coffee near the school? Best location to get groceries if you're living on campus?

Re: NYU Rising 2L Taking Questions
not generally recommended to go to a school you woud;n't be cool graduating from, because the only real advice is be in the top 10%, which you can't really predict. T20 students are pretty damn smart people and predicting you'll beat out 90% is not really tenable.theycallmefoes wrote:Any advice for someone at a T20 looking to transfer after 1L? Thanks!

Hey ya'll! Does anyone have info they could share on Oren Bar-Gill as a prof? Looking at an elective of his for next semester and I know he used to teach at NYU. Thanks

Re: NYU Rising 2L Taking Questions
I had him for contracts. Really smart, really nice guy, good at breaking the material down and making it clear and understandable. All around great professor. So sad that NYU lost him.robotrick wrote:Hey ya'll! Does anyone have info they could share on Oren Bar-Gill as a prof? Advice:theycallmefoes wrote:Any advice for someone at a T20 looking to transfer after 1L? Thanks!
-You need to be top 10% or damn close to it.
-Don't worry about clubs or activities.
-Your LSAT plays no role at all.
-Get to know 2 professors very well because strong LOR are important (IMO).
-Get on a journal, LR helps.
-grades are 95% of their analysis.
Right now, don't even think about anything other than your 1L grades.

Re: NYU Rising 2L Taking Questions
Hey guys!
Some of us at HLS have Hershkoff (Civ Pro) and Geistfeld (Torts) as visiting professors. We're trying to find sample tests and answers online to no avail. Is there any resource online for NYU Law tests and especially answers or is there any other way we could acquire these resources?
Thanks!

I'm newly admitted to NYU. 2 Kids at home...we'd like to try New York but it's a little terrifying.
Any ideas on more affordable areas to live that are good for families? Is Queens a doable commute? Jersey?
Thanks
