not sure but, some law schools give discounted copies of microsoft office, some schools have partnerships with microsoft to offer free microsoft suite licenses and microsoft os.

There are a grand total of two things that suck about macs: not having a true enterprise email client (outlook doesn't get Push), and excel if you need certain tools. But vmware solves both problems.
