I liked this thread when it was about ripping on legallyblonde and less about colleges in rust belt country.

Better and more respected midwestern schools (in no particular order):

Chicago
Northwestern
Michigan
Illinois
Wash U
Notre Dame
Rose Hullman
DePauw
Wooster
Wabash
Knox

And those are just the ones off the top of my head.

Ohio schools cannot be included because they are in Ohio.

In any case, I'm with radlaw. I apologize for derailing this thread with a discussion of overpriced Midwestern TTT undergrads. Carry on as you were.

Hmm.. if Cincy is better then we have a whole lot more schools to add to this list. I actually came to Xavier once to interview for a huge scholarship, one of the first things they told us during the campus tour was to never walk around the area surrounding campus at nite and to never go to UC without a large group of friends. After I won the scholarship my grandmother begged me to go there, she loved the campus.

Also legallyblonde, you say that you are going to "listen to the people who go there." Well guess what? The whole purpose of this thread was an Akron student who essentially said not to go there because the scholarships are so hard to maintain. So maybe you should "listen to the people who go there" and, umm... not go there.

Oh. Midwest Masters programs. Not the same as the 7th best university in the Midwest. Nice slight of hand, though.

Yeah, not even in the ballpark of 7th best in the MW. Unless you actually think Creighton is #1 in the midwest.

What was the point in ranking Master's universities? To give people with nothing else to say about their school a bragging point? Negative.

Someone get on the horn and let Chicago and Northwestern know that they have been dethroned by the likes of Drake, Valpraiso, and Bradley.

These are national universities. They are not going to be ranked regionally in the Midwest.

Also, the link provides the best universities in the Midwest that are undergraduate colleges which also provide master's degrees. It is not simply ranking master's programs.

I assume you live in ohio as well. What other schools are you going to apply to.
Ohio State
UC
NKU
Dayton
Case Western
Cleveland
MSU

Just wondering to make sure you have a healthy list.

I kind of hate to rip on you, legallyblonde - no, really, I do; you've gotten enough as it is - but seeing stats that indicate that less than top third at Boalt managed to find jobs through OCI renders this whole thread, along with your ideas on your employment prospects out of Akron, beyond sad.

No mentioned Grinnell, Oberlin, Macalester, or Carleton in an "fairly elite midwest schools" list? I thought they were all well respected (?).

Oberlin is, but it doesn't offer any master's program's so it is included with either the baccalaureate or liberal arts colleges. The other ones might be also.
