I opted for Seattle U over USD as well... Bigger scholarship, cheaper tuition, and cooler city... I'm happy with the decision.

Heh. I'm form Seattle and taking USD over SU. Not sure about the cooler city part. I know a lot of people who get rejected from one or the other (it's kinda strange like that) and end up saying it's for the best. I got more money from USD too so go figure. But I'm always rooting for SU so best of luck and go to Paseo in Freemont.TheRyanocerous wrote:I opted for Seattle U over USD as well... Bigger scholarship, cheaper tuition, and cooler city... Seattle cooler city than San Diego? Haha. Not a chance. There is a reason no one can afford to live in Daygo.
Unless you mean cooler climate.

Re: University of San Diego School of Law
Hi Everyone,
USD has been one of my top choices for a while for several reasons, one of which is that it's in california (I currently go to school at UCI and my parents live in LA). The high rent doesn't surprise me in the least since irvine is almost as expensive and you just eventually get used to it :/. After reading some thoughts about other people's impressions after ASD i'm starting to get a little apprehensive about it though. I hope i still get in but i will definitely have to sign up for a tour of the campus before making any decisions. If anyone has gotten accepted and/or toured the school, can you please share your experiences?
Thanks

Re: University of San Diego School of Law
I'm going to up this thread. Any current USD students around?
I'm from San Diego and have the "been there, done that - done with that place" kind of feel for it, but it's starting to become more attractive. It's the strongest school in the region, and doesn't seem to be a market that has a huge influx of other grads. Plus, I have two family members that are currently successfully practicing law, and my father is a retired attorney that practiced in SD.
Thoughts on the education? Career prospects? Other thoughts?

"doesn't seem to be a market that has a huge influx of other grads." Not true, not true. Big law in SD primarily goes for top schools, especially top LA schools. While there are some of my peers that are graduating with me this spring going to big and mid-size SD firms, I can count them on one hand. However, I only know of about 20 people with real jobs that are graduating with me, myself included. Most (myself included again) are heading up to LA & OC. It is a bleak time right now to be asking current students about job prospects. Though I'm confident a lot of this will turn around when you're a 2L going through OCI, right now USD isn't that "predominant" in SD at all. I'm a top 5% 3L with a well-rounded resume, and I have a great job lined up in LA that I summered at, but I definitely wanted SD and only got one offer there (Luce Forward). The market is SMALL here. However, I have a lot of friends at UCLA law and I know at least four people that have big law job in SD, so just goes to show that LA is too close for USD to really have that big of a pull over the LA schools. If you have SD attorney connections though, you're in a much better boat. For what it's worth, I had a pretty fantastic time at USD and don't regret going here at all.Great Satchmo wrote:I'm going to up this thread. Any current USD students around?

I'll be checking out Cal Western this weekend, and I need to get in contact with my family attorneys (I figure the fall-back of solo practice isn't as bleak if I have family members helping with connections and mentoring/finding mentors).
USD still hasn't send me anything about aid, but even if they eventually offer money, I kinda doubt it'd be enough to sway me from CWSL if I decide on San Diego rather than staying in the Bay Area.
