Let's see what happens in a week, and I can only hope it is just a miscommunicated policy change.

I think you underestimate the incompetence of the administration. There's been a number of unjustifiable screw-ups over the past few years.Boxsky wrote:Absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. Sure, if you want to delay releasing the grades until days into the Spring semester, that's okay. It's definitely not okay to just sit on your hands and let the students wait on pins and needles for weeks past the usual release date. I have no idea how the administration didn't think that was a fucked up thing to do.

1Ls need to take action. There's no reason to keep people waiting like this. I'd get a group of classmates together and head over to Dean Staudt's office. You can be polite, but be stern and assertive.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I just called the registrar's office, and the above is incorrect. They are not waiting to post the grades all at once. Apparently, they are short-handed, which has delayed the rate at which they usually publish grades. While the deadline is the 13th, many professors (as in previous years) submit the grades earlier.Dolphine wrote:They've started telling people today it's just gonna all come out a few days after the deadline. I'm willing to bet some of the slow grading profs complained about students e-mailing them about when grades come out.
I get switching to them all coming out at once but just own it, don't be like "ohh our registrar is just so backed up we're getting to it."

This would explain a slower release of grades, but does not explain a non-release of grades. I can't imagine that no professors have submitted grades, and as far as I'm aware, no grades have been released.bmmccb223 wrote:I just called the registrar's office, and the above is incorrect. The registrar told me that some professors have already submitted grades but they just haven't had time to upload

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
The bottom line is whatever the reason, they aren't being very forthcoming and transparent. Being understaffed may explain why some grades haven't been released but it certainly doesn't explain why grades from weekend classes or other classes that finished before the end of the semester (where profs submitted grades end of Nov/beginning of Dec) haven't been posted.
And TBH I'd really like to know what it is that the office is doing that (1) is taking up so much time and (2) is being given a higher priority than posting grades (particularly for 1Ls). Everything so far just seems like a lot of excuses and no real answers.

I can't remember her name, but there was a woman with a desk right inside of that big set of admin offices on the main floor of AB. She was in charge of coordinating all of the exam grading stuff. When I talked to her last year, she said they were talking about remodeling that set of offices and taking away the conference room she used to organize everything. I wonder if they finally did it.

Yet another conspiracy to undermine the c/o 2017. When will it ever stop.

I really just think it's administrative ineptitude, so I mostly blame Staudt.xxLawSchoolIsHardxx wrote:Yet another conspiracy to undermine the c/o 2017. When will it ever stop.

There are only ~650 students in the law school total. Literally how hard is it to input grades into a computer.

I'm not sure that number supports your point. 650 is actually a lot when you consider that each student takes 3-5 classes. That being said, they should have planned this out better. It's really not much of an excuse to say they are short-handed.PeanutsNJam wrote:There are only ~650 students in the law school total. Literally how hard is it to input grades into a computer.

I mean anybody who has done any data entry knows that ~2500 individual grades should take 3 people like... 3-4 days to input. Certainly not two weeks. Professors also send grades in sporadically so it's not like you have to do them all at once.bmmccb223 wrote:I'm not sure that number supports your point. 650 is actually a lot when you consider that each student takes 3-5 classes. Really though, "we're busy" doesn't explain why no grades at all are out.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I agree that the too busy excuse doesn't cut it. This whole situation is largely unacceptable. We shouldn't be getting grades back as the second semester begins. This is just bad planning.PeanutsNJam wrote:I mean anybody who has done any data entry knows that ~2500 individual grades should take 3 people like... 3-4 days to input. Certainly not two weeks. Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
This seems like more of an execution problem than a planning one. The registrar can enter a class' grades in 5-10 minutes. If the registrar has grades and has not posted them, it is entirely her fault for not working. We're talking about a job where 10 months of the year there are few tasks and responsibilities. To fail in the few responsibilities that exist is inexcusable.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I worked in data input throughout college. Nine individual work days (3 days/3 people) for 3000 entries? Even that is an extremely generous allowance.
It's like a tax group excusing being late filing their clients' returns because they weren't prepared for the sudden work of tax season. You have one annual period where the job is going to be time-intensive and its the crux of your employment. The absolute least you can do is communicate why you're so inexplicably behind.

I just received an email from one of my professors saying that there were some unforseen delays at the registrars office, and that they were unable to submit grades until yesterday. But hopefully we will have them soon.

Who is "they?" All professors? I'm not sure what he or she means by "unable to submit."MoonSugar wrote:I just received an email from one of my professors saying that there were some unforseen delays at the registrars office, and that they were unable to submit grades until yesterday. That professor was not able to submit grades until yesterday. It's not clear from the email if that applied to all professors or not but since it's due to the registrar's delays and not to a problem the professor had, I would assume it at least included multiple professors.bmmccb223 wrote:Who is "they?" Unsubstantiated rumor is that the previous person who always entered grades retired and the new person is behind on everything. I don't get why so many 2/3Ls are freaking out but I do feel for the 1Ls.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I know a lot of 2ls and 3Ls have employment on lock but some non1ls are not yet employed and may be counting on hopefully a raise in gpa while they continue applying. Additionally some firms require keeping grades up to a certain point. I think it's understandable to want to see grades to see where you stand and how to adjust your class loads, study strategies and scheduling pass fail versus gpa classes this semester. Not denying 1ls have the most reasonable excuse to be freaking out thoLET'S GET IT wrote:Unsubstantiated rumor is that the previous person who always entered grades retired and the new person is behind on everything. I get all that. I just think the level of outrage is way out of proportion.
