I'm surprised so many are still alive. The median GPA is like a 3.7? Median LSAT a 168? Must be hard on those summas to be told for the first time ever that they're not special.

I think Jeffersonian is probably out at this point. The waitlist has gotta be like 100+, unless you find someone who applied for a double and is looking for a roommate.

I imagine it may even be higher for c/o 2013 with the changes in the admissions process this year.

Actually it's 3.85/170. I think C/O 2013 will be the first with a 171 median.

Actually it's 3.85/170. I think C/O 2013 will be the first with a 171 median.

Eh, I'm not so sure, I was a big believer that it would be, but they have taken a lot of below 171 ED people. So I guess we will see.

I don't think so. Should be between 360 and 370, I'm guessing.

Good news for fall OGI is that the transfer classes have been shrinking.

They're aiming for about 355, and that's something I heard directly from the mouth of an adcomm. Not significantly smaller than before. Also they supposedly aimed for about 355 last year and ended up with 368 due to higher-than-expected matriculation rate. They're trying to take additional measures this year to make sure that doesn't happen again.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I've heard that UVA is going to become a direct lender for federal student loans starting next school year. That should mean a lower Grad Plus interest rate.

If true this will be a godsend, it'll save us all thousands of dollars in interest (though sadly this year's loans are locked in at 8.5% FOREVER. )

I don't know anyone who lives there, which is odd since it's fairly close to the law school.

Yeah, I just found a listing for them online, looks kind of small (an efficiency) but I would guess they have other size places.

I know all the 1L's ITT live on Arlington, but does anyone here know of some specific complex names where some other students live? Navigating real estate sites is intentionally tricky because they want you to make direct contact with them and I am not ready for that just yet.

YC, I know you mentioned some students had problems with management at Barracks West, can you explain that a bit? Were they significant problems, or more of annoyance type problems?

A strange phenomenon that I have noticed is that alot of these places (Eagle's Landing for instance) list total rent for the 1 and 2 bedroom units (roughly $850 and $1050), but they list the 3 and 4 bedroom prices as what it would cost for each person to live there ($400-$500). Doesn't this seem strange? I understand the thought behind marketing it with a lower sticker cost by showing each tennant's share, but why don't these places do that with the 2 bedroom units?

Those places typically are renting you a "private bedroom/bathroom" in a 4-bedroom suite with one shared kitchen/living room area. You can either find 3 other people and arrange to share a room, or rent one by yourself and share the common space with three total strangers. They give you a per-person rate because you can rent per-person and let them do the roommate arrangements if you don't care.
