Re: UChi Rising 2Ls (!!) Taking Questions

What time is finaid generally disbursed? Is it by October 1st? I want to make sure I'll have the $ to pay October rent.

Last year it was September 20-somethingish, I think the first day of classes.

I got this confirmed by KV the other day. Sometime randomly on the 20th or 21st, depending on your paperwork.TaipeiMort wrote:Last year it was September 20-somethingish, I think the first day of classes.

Re: UChi Rising 2Ls (!!) Taking Questions
I posted this in another thread, but it looks like Richard Epstein will be teaching at UChicago in Spring. So, you 1Ls have something to look forward to next year hopefully.

Is Washington Park the kind of place where you'll get mugged at night walking through?

If by mugged at night you mean shot for no reason in broad daylight, then yes.Bildungsroman wrote:Is Washington Park the kind of place where you'll get mugged at night walking through?

If you mean Harold Washington Park (by regents), then it is where you engage friendly soccer games with Latinos and Europeans, and play chess against local rabbis.Bildungsroman wrote:Well just as long as it's not dark out.duckmoney wrote:If by mugged at night you mean shot for no reason in broad daylight, then yes.Bildungsroman wrote:Is Washington Park the kind of place where you'll get mugged at night walking through?
If you are talking Washington Park, then yes the shooting in broad daylight is a pretty accurate assessment. Better chance at being killed or robbed there than Baghdad.

So Harold Washington is okay? Not that I'd ever be walking around in it at night, just in general.

Yeah you're fine once the sun goes down. No one would be expecting you to be out.Bildungsroman wrote:Well just as long as it's not dark out.duckmoney wrote:If by mugged at night you mean shot for no reason in broad daylight, then yes.Bildungsroman wrote:Is Washington Park the kind of place where you'll get mugged at night walking through?

I asked my dad about it and he recommend the Baffin brand, but I think Sorel is good too (if a bit more manlier).alphamoose wrote:Can anyone give some advice on winter boots? My attempt to find the answer on google gave me "only children under 10 wear snow boots", "wear uggs", and "hunter boots with heavy socks".

What I did was looked for the shoes I wanted on zappos because they have a ton of reviews and then bought it somewhere much cheaperGhost wrote:Do you know if there sizing runs big or small?Xifeng wrote:I asked my dad about it and he recommend the Baffin brand, but I think Sorel is good too (if a bit more manlier).alphamoose wrote:Can anyone give some advice on winter boots? Re: UChi Rising 2Ls (!!) Taking Questions
Unless you want your feet to get completely wet and disgusting and/or to freeze and break off on the way to and from class... you need them. A lot of people take them off when they get inside and switch into flip flops or flats. There are plastic trays along the lockers for slushy boots; it is pretty warm in the building in the winter, especially in the classrooms.alphamoose wrote: So it's confirmed that people do wear winter boots? I found a pair of Sorel that I like, just wanted to make sure I needed them.

Hope all you guys are inundated with CB's, offers, and good news
Quick question about snow gear... just how heavy duty do our snow boots need to be? Obviously they should be waterproof, but should I look for something extremely warm (read: massive amounts of faux fur) inside?
