Can the 1L's talk a little about your desks at IU? A 2007 grad was telling me each student gets their own individual desk at the school to keep books and basically no one steals your shit and its a great place to study. Is this guy a little over the top or is that true?

Surprisingly they were running strong today or I would not have been in class. My car was buried pretty good and no way was I walking.

I don't think most people have trouble finding someone with a study schedule inconsistent with theirs, which allows the whole setup to be pretty easy.

And if there is an occasional conflict, it isn't like there isn't other seating in the library to utilize during that time. It's a good system.

I'm trying to plan my visit/visits to IU. Right now I am planning to visit during the Spring Law Day later in March. Would I get a better feel for the school if I visited earlier on some random day of the week?

I'm only about 2 1/2 hours away from Bloomington so traveling really isn't an issue. I'm deciding on if I want to visit once on my own and also for the law day or if I just want to visit for the spring law day only.

Same. I also visited during a random weekday, and it was a good experience. Being a 0L and not having been to SLD, I can't answer your question completely, but I think it would be a good idea to go to both, especially if it's not a particularly major hardship for you to get to IU.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll plan on for sure going to the SLD and then most likely visiting on my own to see the school on a 'normal' day of class. Plus it'll give me an extra reason to go hit up the bars again at IU. Maybe I'll actually remember them this time....

Im sure my CA ties helped me out a lot, but still Im excited. Its been pretty rough overall for 1l's finding work (myself included), and I was starting to get worried, albeit there is still plenty of time left to find jobs.

OK, so I'm a IUB 1L, just joining the fray here on this thread. I apologize if I make points that have already been made, but honestly I'm not going to read 26 pages of posts

That said, I guess I'll just pick up with what I see on pg. 26:

First, you can come up anytime, I had an awesome time visiting law schools during my year off. I went to many SLDs and also many "I'm just dropping by for a visit" type things. Both were cool. However, IU was one of two schools that I went to that offered alcohol on SLD (the other being George Mason). I don't know if they'll do it again, as last year they cut us off after quite a few pitchers were ordered for a game we call "Sink the Bismark." Hopefully they will, and though I haven't heard of the group of 1Ls that are "taking it upon" themselves to host, my friends and I will certainly be out in force that night to woo the prospective new students.

I noticed some discussion of the issue of how well the degree travels way back on page one of this post. I can say that one thing that drew me to this school was how well the degree traveled. You can tell when you're at a school and you meet alumni from all over the country who are willing to come back to their alma mater that Indiana is a respected school considering its ranking/location. As a counterpoint, when I visited UGA someone told me that it was a great law school to go to for gaining connections in GA. When further questioned I found that there's a great good-old-boys network of UGA grad working all over the place in GA, but outside of that the degree doesn't really have much weight (for that, this person said, go to Emory).

I'll try to keep on top of this thread a little bit because I remember how much of a help it was to have TLS when looking at law schools. I hope everyone's apps are going well and I hope to see many of you here next fall or summer.

Oh, that reminds me, I'm a summer starter so if anyone has any Qs about summer start ask away.

Finally, I'm curious who the other TLS Indiana 1Ls (or higher) are that are on this board. I'm sure you all by now know who each other is. But if you want PM me and we'll reveal our identities haha.

It seems like most of the summer starters are pretty burned out at this point and just drink all the time... plus, you get lumped into a class first semester (crim pro) with a bunch of 2L's. For the 1L's, grade wise, it was basically a slaughterfest.

How much might such a program cost?

The whole concept of "summer starts" and LEOP hits me as a bad development among law schools. Especially if it is coming at a cost to the student.

It's only a month early, so it's not bad. Your summer isn't gone. You get to know all the summers pretty well, and learn pretty quick how you should be studying. You get a good bunch of people you know, learn where everything is, already have your TV hooked up, etc.

Major advantage? No. Everyone thought it was, but from what grades I have heard, it wasn't too much help. It was good for me because I have gotten a slow start on... pretty much everything in my life. So I managed to hit fall semester at where I should be.

I think I summer grades for granted a little, not realizing every teacher is testing for something different. Some people are better at short answer, some are better at multiple choice, others are better on long answer, and all the above will get fucked over in criminal procedure. Or whatever 2L class you take, will be full of the smart 2L's. They are smart because they picked a class with 1L's who have only taken one exam and those 2L's have a schedule 1/3rd as hectic.

Still, I'd do it again. The school was really good about giving the class for cheap. I ended up taking torts for a few hundred dollars. I think it would be way too crazy trying to figure out where to eat/park/who to talk to/finish moving along with 5 classes.

Who are they offering to teach for the summer start program anyways?
