Lots of people who interviewed and got offers during the summer told me that they actually got them during the walkarounds instead of the OCI. Is that true?

Do you have pre-lawschool work experience?Dads707 wrote:Do you see many folks from WUSTL taking non-legal professional positions upon graduation or during summers?
For example, Management Consulting, Investment Banking, etc. A lot of MBA SA announcements state that they will take JD students as well.
I know the first piece of advice everyone gives is to do legal positions in the summers and not to go to law school if you're looking at other fields; however, these are great plans in the event that unemployment is the alternative.

4 Years US Government Project Management/Software Engineering (post-bachelor's)
4 Years General Management in small family business (hiring, purchasing, sales, marketing, MIS, etc.) (during bachelor's)
4 Years Wal-Mart worker bee (got to see day-to-day operations at the #1 Fortune 500 though) (pre-bachelor's)
I'm 28, but there's some overlap between these positions. Hope that helps.

At least you have that much...though you would think that if they have that, the final grade should be posted, as well.robert88 wrote:our LRM raw score is up on blackboard...not sure what it means...

First of all: Best execution for this would be to do non-legal your first summer that tangentially touches a legal role.
For example, legal consulting, corporate development, MM I-banking, Big 4 TAS services. You can then interview with firms and say you did the experience to get a look at the business side of things. However, landing one of those gigs is quite difficult from Olin, and a summer in operations at say like Emerson will screw with your legal recruiting.
Second of all: Wash U is a horrible school to try and do this from. OLIN is a relatively small MBA program (like under 400 FT MBA's) so not alot of firms come on campus for MBA's. None of MBB does OCR and the only I-bank is Lazard middle market. Hence, if you do come to WUSTL, you are fighting an uphill battle as an MBA much less as a law student.
You would do much better at like UCLA or Texas (assuming thats around where your stats will end up placing) than at WUSTL. Even Emory might be better. However, Ibanking/Consulting really should be looked at as an option for someone who has biglaw as an option, not as an option for someone who doesn't.

Paraphrasing someone earlier in the thread defending DBT, the mean of the whole section is still 3.55, so the whole section is not worse off. (I don't agree with that btw)

That person was also incorrect, because DBT did not curve to a 3.55 meanrobert88 wrote:Paraphrasing someone earlier in the thread defending DBT, the mean of the whole section is still 3.55, so the whole section is not worse off. (I don't agree with that btw)

What? I thought 3.55 is the mandatory mean. How do you know it wasn't?

There's a little bit of wiggle room, I think it has to be between like 3.51 and 3.55.robert88 wrote:What? I thought 3.55 is the mandatory mean. How do you know it wasn't?
I have no knowledge of DBT's being below 3.55, though some professors have done it in the past.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I think it actually just needs to be between a 3.49 and a 3.55...it's not wildly uncommon for professors to curve to a lower mean than a 3.55 if a few students do very poorly in a course (Levin usually curves to a 3.52 for Civ Pro). It was uncommon that he did it because he didn't really give any extremely low grades. And I know because he explained it to multiple students who went to him and complained after grades came out. Apparently he left some wiggle room for participation boosts and the boosts weren't enough to get the class to the 3.55 mean. Regardless, it really does no good to continue worrying about it. Just have to play the hand we're dealt.Joscellin wrote:There's a little bit of wiggle room, I think it has to be between like 3.51 and 3.55.robert88 wrote:What? I thought 3.55 is the mandatory mean. Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Found out that I need to pick up an extra class to stay on pace for graduation. Does anyone have a recommendation for a relatively chill class that won't destroy me (eg: UCC Article 2, Commercial Law, Fed Courts, Anything Tax, etc)?

Yeah, totes just used every unchill class as an example of a chill one by mistake. Whoops.sublime wrote:Jmart082 wrote:Found out that I need to pick up an extra class to stay on pace for graduation. Commercial Law isn't very chill.

Pretrial with Growe is probably as chill as it gets. But to disagree with sublime, I actually enjoyed commercial, and the multiple choice exam was kinda relaxing. I just like Keating in general though, super nice dudesublime wrote:Trial and pretrial are modified p/f.Jmart082 wrote:Yeah, totes just used every unchill class as an example of a chill one by mistake.
