I am curious: (and here's more of me being "excited"/nervous/insane) is there a singular location where RA positions or "job opportunities" within the Law Center are posted?

And is there a newsfeed or listserv where new internship opportunities, clerkship opportunities, etc are shared with students?
Jobs within school are generally posted on Symplicity. To get an RA position, though, you can just contact a professor directly. Once the semester is over and you either got an A in their class or otherwise have something specific to offer a professor (such as a degree or prior experience relevant to their research), many are happy to take you on. That's what I and everyone else I know who worked as an RA during their first year did.

The career service office as well as the public interest office send out regular emails with internship opportunities as soon as the year gets underway. There will be many more of these sorts of emails than you'll want to receive.

Thanks guys.

Another question, for those of you who have experience with this sort of thing : how difficult/easy is it to find renters to sublet/AirBNB an apartment around Capitol Hill?

Currently trying to decide between paying more for a shorter lease, or paying less per month for a 12 month lease and attempting to rent out the apartment during winter/summer breaks.

Too early to tell. You can't pay student loans with callbacks, so most people don't really know where they stand just yet.

Makes sense. How do you feel people are doing in the CB arena though? Are people at least getting a few?

Also, could you clear up how the job search at GULC works in the first place? What happens the summer of 1L in terms of internships/jobs, and then 2L for internships/jobs?

I called fin aid yesterday, who told me that they are expected to be disbursed this Friday. You will need to go into MyAccess, and go to "student account" and hit the "request refund" button because for some ungodly reason GULC considers the loans that you take out to be something they can sit on until you ask them to give 'm to you. Motherfuckers.

Thanks for the info, I definitely did not read that anywhere and would not have known to do that. I hope Friday is right, DC living (moving in) expenses have destroyed my bank account.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want biglaw, for the summer of 1L, you pretty much can do anything in terms of internships/jobs since it is pretty difficult to land a 1L Biglaw (although it seems more prevalent this year than last year). There's the gov/public interest fair with GW, there's international internships, etc. Once you're done with your 1L summer internship, you basically come back in early August to interview for EIW for Biglaw and if you land something and accept an offer, that's your 2L summer. There's also government and public interest fairs as well I think throughout the fall semester of your 2L for those who don't want to do biglaw.

My friend who took summer classes has gotten all his summer grades. Depends on the professor as always.

Oh I see, so for Biglaw, there's EIW your 1L summer, and then during the 2L summer, there is OCI for your actual biglaw job?

EIW occurs August between 1L and 2L for your 2L summer job. Most firms coming to Georgetown hire 100% of their summer class as full time associates. For 3L EIW, about 3 non-IP firms came. EIW is Georgetown's name for OCI.

Ah I EIW vs OCI is where I was getting confused. so the GULC EIW 2016 thread under the legal employment forum is actually for incoming 2Ls.

Wanted to get a second opinion on this:

I just found out I'm in DeLaurentis' LRW class. The 3 required books are TeachingLaw (electronic coursebook), A Uniform System of Citation ("The Bluebook"), and Rhetoric for Lawyers.

I was previously told to refrain from buying the latter 2 books, and to just use TeachingLaw. Thoughts?

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Whoever told you that was trolling you. The bluebook is the only absolutely indispensable item in all of law school. You can probably skip the other book though.
