TERTIARY TWIST: You can pay some of it down with SA income? (possible? probable?)Morgan12Oak wrote:lol you aren't getting to 267k. Period. That being said its irrelevant, because sticker puts you in an uncomfortable place.
TWIST: UVA isn't a TTT and has an LRAP program thats actually decent.
SECONDARY TWIST: UVA also has reasonably good job prospects to avenues that can pay off sticker.

So has anyone here been able to use SA money to help with 3L tuition? Or does that not go as far as wishful 0Ls think

I know some 2Ls who did it with 1L SA money. I don't see why we wouldn't be able to do it with the 2L summer cash. They pay you an obscene amount.catholicgirl wrote:So has anyone here been able to use SA money to help with 3L tuition? Or does that not go as far as wishful 0Ls think

Fuck paying that down with SA money. 20k to you now is models and bottles. 20k may turn to 35k to you in 10 years who gives a shit by then you're either broke or rich.

Also: just make min payments on your loans, if that. Wait for that student loan forgiveness. If sticker is 200k I'd discount that significantly based on bailout probability.
disclaimer: I'm close to sticker with an SA and have 0 interest in using my models and bottle money on paying back debt that the rest of America will just have forgiven

Sadly, no. They were a bit hard to get my 1L year and I chose to gun rather than spend a lot of time job-hunting. A decent number of UVA peeps got them though, and I think they're becoming easier to nab (anecdotally I saw a lot more 1L opportunities coming via email this year than last).catholicgirl wrote:Were you able to score a 1L SA?dailygrind wrote:I know some 2Ls who did it with 1L SA money. Also anecdotally, the 1L's that I talked to at ASW said that everyone who wanted 1L SA's got them, though they couldnt be picky. They did mention that some 1Ls had multiple offers thoughdailygrind wrote:Sadly, no. They were a bit hard to get my 1L year and I chose to gun rather than spend a lot of time job-hunting. I can say definitively that all 1L's who wanted SA's didn't get them. Even in the hay days, I'm pretty sure 1L SA was under 20%.

Perhaps there are 1Ls who are incapable of deciphering the difference between an internship and a SA position?
I think almost everyone does at least have something to do for the summer. Unfortunately for many that will mean no or little pay.

EDIT: I think I'm wrong actually.
Summer 2010 which was a bad year obviously 19% got firm jobs (don't know how many pay)
So in the hay day it looks like 20% was a bad estimate. Might be a good estimate still if you count firms that pay? Either way, I would be willing to bet that there was a significant number of 1L's who wanted summer SA's and that probably didn't get them.

Class of 2013, I had 4 1L SA offers. Disclaimer: I'm from the South, targeted Southern Markets, and had good grades.

As a 1L I can say that a lot of my friends who went for 1L SAs did not get them.Morgan12Oak wrote:I can say definitively that all 1L's who wanted SA's didn't get them. Even in the hay days, I'm pretty sure 1L SA was under 20%.
(I did not get one either but honestly I didn't really try too hard based on the amount of work it would take combined with the small likelihood of getting one.)
Also, I love how it is finals time so this board heats up with people not wanting to study.

I bet results are significantly different based on who you are friends with. People that came from the south had a significantly better time than the Yanks.

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
Haha yeah, I work at a firm in the south right now so I already have a large list of firms that take 1L SA's. I will definitely be gunning for one of those 2,500-3,100 dollar a week positions. With that and a 2L SA (and my gf paying my rentMorgan12Oak wrote:I bet results are significantly different based on who you are friends with. Man, it does feel good to be a hopeful, likely overly optimistic, 0L

Trust me, you're gonna model/bottle it up hard instead of paying off loans with SA money. I know people that pretty much had your exact plan. Ends up with spending ridiculous amounts of money in C-Ville and spending even more money when you go away for weekends.

Can we actually stop talking about models and bottles, and actually get bottle service at Three? Is this possible? Let's do this next year.Morgan12Oak wrote:Trust me, you're gonna model/bottle it up hard instead of paying off loans with SA money. I know people that pretty much had your exact plan. Haha you are probably right, that will be nice though :p Working this year between UG and LS my goal was to save at least first semesters tuition. I lol at myself all the time for that when I look at all the bullshit I spend $ onMorgan12Oak wrote:Trust me, you're gonna model/bottle it up hard instead of paying off loans with SA money. Hey, just throwing this out there, but if any of the 3Ls have old outlines that they wouldn't mind sharing, I would absolutely love to take them off your hands while you've still got them. I still plan to take a few substantive classes before I graduate and it'd be awesome to have some outlines to work off of. Thanks!

Think it was more like 40% in the good old days of the mid-2000s.Morgan12Oak wrote:I can say definitively that all 1L's who wanted SA's didn't get them. Even in the hay days, I'm pretty sure 1L SA was under 20%.

As someone who has gotten bottle service at both Three and Trinity, I can tell you that it is overrated.desertlaw wrote:Can we actually stop talking about models and bottles, and actually get bottle service at Three? Can we get it in a ropped-off area, and have bouncers screen off who comes in/out?jawsthegreat wrote:As someone who has gotten bottle service at both Three and Trinity, I can tell you that it is overrated.desertlaw wrote:Can we actually stop talking about models and bottles, and actually get bottle service at Three? Doritos is onto something - bottle service at Wings Over sounds like something worth it.

Wings over doesn't have windows. You gotta flaunt that shit. Bottle service at chipotle and than style on the undergrads that come in and are confused as shit.
They do have an alcohol license - can probably arrange it with the manager.
