I can't stop laughing at that <name redacted> post (mostly just the fact that he tagged his name at the end). I doubt that's really him, but who knows.

If you guys think he was drunk, why do you keep repeatedly posting and quoting his name in subsequent posts?

In the past few pages, I swear everyone has turned into huge jerks. Not a very good representation of the school. 98% of us are apparently good people, but 8 of us can repeatedly trash our classmates maliciously. Not cool...

Great point. I have changed the name of the person in question to "King of the Dragons".

Now I'm not a jerk.

Law school politics gets a little out of control sometimes, I know that I have let it get the best of me. I think everyone is on edge and just expresses emotions from the semester and classes.

I really don't see good things coming out of this thread, this topic has garnered to much attention at school already.

and if the dude is out there reading, I apologize and good luck if you are trying to transfer.

Fair enough, I redacted his name out of my post too (where I never said I thought he was drunk to begin with), but I truly think that's very likely just someone pranking him and not really him anyway. And I never meant to trash him, I honestly like the guy with the redacted name.

I interviewed with a federal judge, and I am supposed to hear back in the next few days, but other then that I have nothing.

Might need to adopt that nickname in class from now on. Also, in regards to summer employment, I had an offer from a St. Louis firm doing some bitch work so I'm applying to a few different IP firms right now.

Thanks to my [redacted] professor [redacted], I need to find out how to write a memo of the quality that should be sent as a writing sample.

I have been shooting out a few applications of a varying degree of quality. I am really fairly disappointed in OCPD's lack of ability to find good internships. I'm not sure what the point is of OCPD if they cannot find or inform me of the available jobs.

I'm trying to apply to major cities, and, for instance, OCPD gives us around 3 per very near major city. I know the job market isn't flooded with 1L summer internships, but it would be great if I didn't have to not only re-write my entire writing sample but also find every firm taking applications.

I will probably change my view once I get a job, but this is a kind of high stress time for us 1L's.

If you look on symplicity there is a page that is supposed to help with the writing sample.

and if you didn't get htis from your instructor here is what Goodman emailed us
CF#2 REVISIONS, WRITING SAMPLES, COVER PAGE

If you are planning to use your CF#2 memo as a writing sample, you may want to omit one section to keep it to a manageable size. If you do, leave in the sub-heading for the omitted section and then, under that subheading, where the text was, write

[Section omitted.]

When submitting the sample, put a COVER PAGE on it that says it is your writing sample, that it was written for this class, and that while it has received instructor feedback it was drafted and edited entirely by you.

This may have been covered already, but what can I expect as far the age of the incoming 1L's? I'm 25 now (26 in July); will I be young, old, or more in the middle?

In all likelihood, you'll be completely indistinguishable as far as age goes.

My pga is almost all 24 or 25 year olds, I am like the young fresh out of college guy. I think in general age seems to vary a lot at IU and you will have no issue with it.

It really won't be a problem if you don't let yourself be self-conscious about it. I have several friends older than that. I almost always forget that they're a different age than people 5+ years younger than them.

Yeah sorry, i just meant the average age was probably between 24 and 25, there are many late 20's young 30's students.

For what it's worth, I'm 28 and a girl in my practice group is only a year or two younger than you.

I feel that I need to clear this up. :) I have no qualms about attending law school with people that are younger than me. It will not influence my decision in choosing a law school. I am also not self-conscious about my age!!!!

I would just like to say that if any 0L's are interested in IP, the Intellectual Property Association at IUB just started a mentorship program this year and so far it's amazing. You get teamed up with a practitioner who basically acts as a guide and informational interview source for you. It's great.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Do the old people get sucked into the whole "high school" atmosphere of law school? (29 here) That is, of course, assuming that there is a return to high school cliches such as cliques and gossip and the like. A lot of posters on TLS mention LS is somewhat regressive in that regard (most likely because of the heavy competition) but I am thinking maybe the old fogeys stay above the fray? Or maybe they are just ostracized for just not getting it or being cool enough...

Just wanted to pop in here and say thanks to all you current IUB students for providing great information and an honest perspective on the school.

I am leaning heavily towards IU at the moment. I'm instate, and with the money IU offered, IU is my cheapest option by a good amount (ITE keeping my debt to a minimum is a huge concern since getting a job will not be a guarantee).

I know that a lot of job searching, especially for summer employment, will be a solo effort most likely wherever I end up, but I have heard good things about the career services office at IUB. What are some of your thoughts on IU's career services office? Do you think it is any better/worse/same as most other schools?

Sorry if this has been asked or touched on previously, but I know some of you 1L's weren't able to speak with them until after Nov. 1st, so I wanted to see if you had any experiences so far that might be helpful.

It's hard for 1L's to really compare since we'll only have been to the one school. That said, I think the IUB OCPD is full of people who go out of their way to help students. Indiana's new Legal Professions class is helping a lot with networking since we, as 1L's, get first choice when it comes to informational interviews with alumni the school brings in. They've also added a dinner with alumni at a local upscale restaurant that was a fantastic way to really get to know the alumni.

So 1L's, could you talk a little more about housing around Bloomington? i.e. How much is a 1BR? 2BR? Streets or buildings to check out (other than pool side)? How much square footage will you get at different price points? I don't want to live next to a frat house, but being able to bike/walk/take a quick bus ride to school and extracurricular activities (bars and basketball games) would be nice.

Halibut, if you've got pics of different places you looked at, would you mind PM'ing those to me?

I need something to occupy my mind as the rest of my admissions cycle drama unfolds, so I figure I'd might as well start looking.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
