Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
I've heard that being so far away from a big city hurts recruiting etc. since it is like 5 hrs to the city. Also, I have heard that the grade curve is brutal... Any thoughts?

I have never heard anyone say the curve at Cornell is brutal... where did you get that?

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
I've actually never heard either of these claims, and, anyway, I think both are false. Cornell has a pretty generous curve (3.3) and does very well with recruiting. Actually, you might be talking about on-campus recruiting. There are a number of employers that don't want to trek out to Ithaca, but want to interview Cornell students so they have off-campus interviews with Cornell students in other places (e.g. New York City). For all intents and purposes, though, these interviews work the same way as OCI.jd-mba-sfo wrote:I've heard that being so far away from a big city hurts recruiting etc. since it is like 5 hrs to the city. Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
I've never heard anyone say this. It varies a bit by professor: they all have to make 3.35 the median, but some of them basically give everyone a B+ and give a few A- and B grads; others give lots of As and lots of Cs.jd-mba-sfo wrote:Also, I have heard that the grade curve is brutal... Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
I've never heard that the curve is brutal, but I think there is a perception that cornell is more rigorous than some schools *cough*NYU*cough* because there are 4 graded doctrinal classes and a graded writing class rather than 3 + a p/f writing class. This bothers some ppl.

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
How the hell do I get from New York City to Ithaca for a visit? There aren't any trains and I do not have a car.
I'm guessing bus
. Is there a recommended, less-shitty bus that I should take?

I took Shortline to get up to Cornell from NYC. It was ~$86 round trip. --LinkRemoved--mailerdaemon wrote:How the hell do I get from New York City to Ithaca for a visit? There aren't any trains and I do not have a car.

I think they're furnished insofar as a dorm is typically furnished. The beds are celibate sized.paraducks wrote:are the rooms in hughes furnished?

Y'all could come to the big red barn with us for $1 beers. 4:30-7. Although I think you have to have a cornell ID on you to prove that you are a grad/prof student, so if anyone wants to come to that let one of us know so you could be a "guest".studymaster wrote:So where is everyone going out to this friday after ASD?

Well, it's sposed to be for grad students but if a grad student brings someone they will get in. In other words, they allow "guests". Wtf.studymaster wrote:a "guest"?kn6542 wrote:Y'all could come to the big red barn with us for $1 beers. 4:30-7. I hear Pussycat Dolls are going to be the slope day attraction.
From all the slope days I've been to, I just don't see it.

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
It's really weird. Slope day is really kind of a dirty, outdoor food-y, get trashed off your ass on beer kind of day. I can't imagine how that fits with the Pussycat Dolls. What idiot made this decision I can't even imagine.
Do they know that there aren't hordes of 13 year old kids at Cornell?

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
Getting away from the interesting question of why the pussy cat dolls are coming for slope day (do you really need a good reason for the pussy cat dolls to come?), I believe someone mentioned going out after ASD. There is supposed to be a dinner until 7 that I think I'm going to-I cant ignore free food-but where else do people want to meet up and grab drink or something? Will there be any parties going on that would be open letting a few OLs come hang out?

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
This may be a stupid and/or misguided question but please indulge me:
I'm a NYC kid having a hard time coping with the idea of being in Ithaca for three years. I know that Cornell students can do a semester externship in NYC, and have read that Cornell students can alternately do coursework at a comparable law school if Cornell doesn't offer a certain class. Finally, when I visited on the ASD a lot of students talked about their study abroad experience.
The question is, is it common or possible to do two semesters out of Ithaca? E.g., Spring 2L externship, Fall 3L abroad, or a semester at NYU/Fordham then an externship? Or am I grasping at straws? Or both?

I know my 3L guide did two semesters abroad. So, it is possible. I doubt it is very common..

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
you used to be able to spend 2 semesters away from ithaca, but when i visited last wknd, we were told that the school is starting to crack down on that so you can only do 1 semester away from ithaca. you can, however, do your 1L summer abroad (the Summer Institute in Paris) and do another semester/externship away.galobi wrote:This may be a stupid and/or misguided question but please indulge me:

I must have missed that announcement. Sadness. I was hoping to spend my third year studying/working in L.A.missv463 wrote:
