Re: Harvard Student(s) Answering Your Questions
No exam. If I remember correctly, just go to class, do some homework, get a P. I don't think there are Hs (although you should wait for a second opinion before relying on my info, my memory of PSW is a bit fuzzy).Fred012 wrote:are there exams for PSW? is it H/P/LP graded?

Last year and the year before it was credit / no credit. You had to show up and do the work but there was no pressure at all.

It's a little better than applying to HBS without having gotten into HLS — that is to say, the credential of being at HLS helps you — but not a ton. I know at least one HLS/HBS JD/MBA, but I don't know whether he got into both simultaneously or got into one from the other.Fred012 wrote:or know anybody who has done it?Fred012 wrote:anybody have any sense of the admission rate of 1L into the b school?

Is there a timeline for when we can expect the Closed Memo's back? Do they come with comments? I was assuming it would just be like papers in UG; is that basically correct?

i assume once u get the P on closed, theres essentially no shot at H for the class, so might as well just get the P on the open too right? was anybody in this spot last year?

Re: Harvard Student(s) Answering Your Questions
My Climenko assigned points that translated to a P or H. So if you had a high P but not quite an H, you could still get an H if you did well enough on the open. I don't know how common this is.Fred012 wrote:i assume once u get the P on closed, theres essentially no shot at H for the class, so might as well just get the P on the open too right? was anybody in this spot last year?

If I remember correctly, I don't think my Climenko gave grades to the individual memos at all. We got extensive feedback on each, and then a grade at the end of the semester (with no additional feedback).

I've never heard of any class having mandatory LP's, though I certainly have heard of folks LPing LRW.

Man, your posting ITT is all over the place. Calm down. LRW (and the rest of 1L) can be frustrating - try your best, and when you get results back, talk through them with your prof/Climenko. That's all you can do.Fred012 wrote:Thanks. and LRW has mandatory LPs I hear?

Re: Harvard Student(s) Answering Your Questions
Widely thought to be about 3 H's. Back in the days when the grade distribution was known, the average was equivalent to less than 3.2* H's on the year. It's slightly higher now, most likely,** but there are reasons to believe that the average is greater than the median.Fred012 wrote:whats median on the year? 4Hs? so 2 a semester? No LPs
60th percentile, which we know from cum laude cutoffs, is roughly 5 or so H's.
* Yes, it was 37% H's. But there were 0-2 DS's (which is 0-2.5% in an 80-person section) and 8% LP's, so the average was somewhat under 3.7 H's per year. If there were 2 DS's, the average would be 3.15 H's. (Technically, it also wasn't calculated this way until the next year.)
** It could be as high as close to 4 H's. If there were 4 DS's and 2 LP's in a section, hypothetically, the average in that section would be 3.95 H's.

Internet forum so do what you want but I second that you really need to chill. I thought I was high strung.wwwcol wrote:Man, your posting ITT is all over the place. Calm down. Appreciate the advice and guidance.
Had another question. Is there participation at HLS? I know exams are blind graded but after professors see a list of students and their exam grades, can they move them up or down based on other factors?

There is a class size limit to participation grades. I don't know what the exact number is, but in 1L classes, profs are not allowed to take into account class participation.Fred012 wrote:Had another question. Is there participation at HLS? I've heard a professor say recently that the limit is 50, but I can't find it written anywhere.tomwatts wrote:There is a class size limit to participation grades. Anybody taken Judge Sutton's State Constitutional Law or Peter Carfagna's Sports Law over J-term? Would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Re: Harvard Student(s) Answering Your Questions
is there any differentiation among intl law courses in terms of workload, difficulty or grading scale? any easier ways to an H or particularly difficult ones? clearly the case with electives and everybody its talking about it but none of the 1Ls have any clue on the intl laws (me included)
