Re: Workout clothes for class
I'm not sure how you think my argument is about what people where in law school classes. I'm arguing about what people should wear all the time. It isn't just about job prospects and that hasn't been what I've been talking about at all.

Well, people probably assumed, since the thread is actually about what to wear to class and all...

What you should wear all the time covers class as well. It's in my posts, I don't know why someone would try to argue with me without reading what I've said...A. Nony Mouse wrote:Well, people probably assumed, since the thread is actually about what to wear to class and all...

And this doesn't really matter too much outside of formal settings. Sure, some people including you value a more formal presentation than whatever clothes are the most comfortable. That's cool but the standard you hold is a minority view. I've worn running clothes in every non-formal setting since junior high and it hasn't harmed my network, job opportunities, academic opportunities, or anything else really. Beyond whatever impact my attire has had on my first impression, my actual conduct has always mattered much more.RancidSumo wrote:I'm not sure how you think my argument is about what people where in law school classes. The fact that people are disagreeing ITT shows that there will be people in your class who will have different views about whether gym clothes are appropriate. And OP wouldn't have asked this question is he/she didn't care what other people thought. So basically: some people will care, others won't. Make up your own mind as to whether you give a shit what they think. I say this as someone who dressed slightly more casually than most of my classmates.

Just lol@ judging classmates for how they dress, how they handle cold calls, or their grades.

If you're attractive you'll still be attractive wearing shorts and a tee

Just don't look like a slob.
Workout clothes are fine, as long as they fit well, are clean, and leave plenty to the imagination. There's a dude in my class who wears gym clothes to class and I get embarrased for him- you can see every role of body fat on his ample body through his skin tight white t-shirts with logos like "reps for jesus" on them.

I see you have difficulties with recognizing experience can come from outside law school as well. You calling someone stupid here is actually a pretty good example of irony for your PSA.Capitol_Idea wrote:PSA: " Ironic" =/= "stupid"LeDique wrote:also it's incredibly ironic that you've never been in law school before, yet you're calling out people for having "obviously never been professionals before"

if you wear workout clothes to class, just don't give a shit if someone thinks it's slobby

(No it isn't). Also if you have no experience with law school classes then you can't comment on them as well as people who have been in them. ESPECIALLY when what is really being asked is 'what's the norm?'RancidSumo wrote:I see you have difficulties with recognizing experience can come from outside law school as well. I think Bopeep ended this thread quite nicely
We are done here guys, let's go argue about what happens if you don't wear Park Aves or panty hose or something

I think a lot of us judge classmates on how they handle cold-calls. I care a lot more about who a person is than how articulate they are but, like many of my classmates, I can tell when people aren't prepared and are trying to BS. I'm not going to like them any less as a person but if they are consistently unprepared in class, I might not be willing to stick my neck out for that person like I would for a person I know works their ass off.BigZuck wrote:Just lol@ judging classmates for how they dress, how they handle cold calls, or their grades.
But that's just my opinion on the matter. As far as grades go, I tend to keep that to myself unless someone directly asks. I think most people do. Law school grades don't measure intelligence and I don't get a kick out of bragging about my grades. I don't know if other law schools are the same but at mine, if you tell a few people something, word will get around. It's a lot like high school...a lot of gossiping.

Why do you respect that person more? If they're not doing their work in law school, how can you feel confident they'll work hard in the real world?

Re: Workout clothes for class
I see the people who have blown off the reading in order to do more important things as exactly the people I want to work with. Especially if they're still kicking ass grades-wise and such. I'd rather you be good enough to do the minimum to get where you want to be in life and spend the rest of your time also maximizing that goal. In my case, for example, I do very little reading or briefing and spend a ton of time networking with sports execs and front office personnel because that's where I want to go in life.lawman84 wrote:As in recommending them for a job.BigZuck wrote:Stick your neck out? Well, I wish you luck on that. That all said, I want the people that can do both. I don't want people that choose not to do work because they have more important priorities. Yes, prioritizing work is important...especially in law. But blowing work off is a different story.
Some will say that it's law school so it doesn't matter. And they're right to a degree. But until I know that person will work their butt off in the real world, I am going to have my doubts about them if they don't work hard in law school.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
