Varies by professor. You might get one (Mandelker) by Christmas, but other than that probably not until intersession or later. Try not to waste your break worrying about them.

Have another drink every time you check grades and this problem will solve itself.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Are there people who get decent jobs outside of top 1/3? Yes absolutely. Those people have something going for them other than grades, though because outside top 1/3 (top quarter, really) interviews at OCI are few and far between. Also, if you're not from St. Louis it becomes that much tougher. Just because WUSTL puts roughly 1/3 of people in firms of 100+ and federal clerkships doesn't mean that top 1/3 is sufficient to get that kind of job. Firms dip deeper for people with connections (to the market or the firm), diversity, IP backgrounds, etc., and you should know by now whether any of those applies to you.alaird21 wrote:given the placement numbers, can one actually get a decent job from wustl outside top third?

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
I would say the vast majority of my class got solid legal jobs. The higher ranking usually ensures: (1) A higher starting salary, (2) more diverse/prestigious options, and (3) getting a job quicker (i.e., thru OCI rather than 3L year or post-graduation).
So yes, people outside top 1/3 generally obtain good legal work, but six-figures is unlikely, and you'll probably deal with a more stressful job search than your higher-ranked peers. And of course, some people will wind up empty handed or severely undercompensated, but I would say most folks (even outside top third) landed into a respectable gig.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Can someone remind me how to find the course times for LP and LRM? They're not included on the course grid yet. I remember finding the times somewhere on webstac last semester, but I can't find it now. Thanks!

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
The only people I know that had an easy time finding a job outside the top third were people that qualified for IP, and people that went to work for their parents' firms.alaird21 wrote:given the placement numbers, can one actually get a decent job from wustl outside top third?
Other than the above, the people I know outside the top third that got jobs tended to get them at slip n' fall mills, insurance defense, government/PI volunteer-ships, started their own firm, are working on the temp/doc review circuit, found jobs at unstable small law firms that collapsed within a year (or within weeks), or dropped out of law entirely. Quite a few moved back in with their parents after they went home, because their job paid too little to live on their own and pay their loans. In fact, quite a few of the people in this category are within the top third.
There's virtually no plan for you if you strike out at OCI. This isn't anything WUSTL-specific--it's true at every school, even T6 schools like Chicago and NYU. There never was any plan. The bottom 2/3rds of the class is there simply to pump up tuition revenues. There's no list of lesser legal employers lining up to hire people who didn't get Biglaw, other than a few regional firms that equate to Biglaw in smaller markets. But you have to have extensive ties to that market. You have to scratch and claw your way into something that hopefully isn't too shameful to put on your resume to ruin the rest of your legal career (slip n' fall stuff will do this), and you do this through endless networking.
People have to realize that there's a huge survivor's bias regarding the perceived successes of their classmates' careers. A lot of people who get totally screwed withdraw socially, are less likely to fill out a LinkedIn profile, or are less likely to be open and honest about their shameful situation.

Konig and Baker--thanks for your contribution to a great 1L first semester. We all know how hard it is to craft original exams.scottidsntknow wrote:That last comment is just meanDolphine wrote:Last year:

cut-offs don't come out until every 1L grade is posted (including LP), which usually doesn't happen until after intersession, but it'll be before OCI bidding deadline. I think they extended the bidding period for OCI for us since there was an LP prof that submitted grades late.LET'S GET IT wrote:How long will it be before the class distribution chart is up?hoos89 wrote:Hold on to your butts.LET'S GET IT wrote:Mandelker's grades are up.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh haha my b, yeah that chart goes up usually a few days after the grade comes out. Just depends on when the registrar decides to do it, but usually within the weekLET'S GET IT wrote:I meant this one, Cuse.
