Do fellowships count as school funded?
I think so.

Do you really think 4 people takes us from "fucked" to "not fucked"? Maybe it was just enough to move the needle for USNWR, IDK

Oh I missed the part about 4. Yea, then maybe this is just admin incompetence. Nobody ever went broke betting against Northwestern Law's administration's competence.

I revise my earlier outrage. Anyone who has been applying for fellowships is probably ready to go on this.

4 is like what...1.5% percent of the class, right? Wonder if they'll continue to grow this or if it's a "let's move the needle slightly for this year's employment #s" king of thing as you guys are saying.

They are paying pretty good, which leads me to believe that this isn't a give away to juke unemployment.

I imagine they'll do a much bigger rollout for this for class of 2014.

This kind of makes me wish I weren't clerking, since I won't be able to apply for these fellowships after that.

Topically, here are my favorite "juking the stats" clips:

"You juke the stats, and professors become deans."

Glad he's outting the #s. Similar to what TLS had estimated.

Do you agree NU has more "optimal outcomes" than TLS/LST/ATL give it credit?

Kinda surprised that 10% of JD/MBA alums are partners.

I was having doubts about NU after their TTTdom was revealed by ATL but now that i know about not just synergy but synergies plural all fears have been assuaged.

Partner doesn't just mean partner at a V100.

I absolutely believe that. But if they started looking at good PI outcomes I bet we would look TTT again

And TLS changes its mind based on last years data. Before this year people were saying NU was elite for biglaw. This year it's TTT.

For a bunch of smart people they don't understand random noise in data at all.

To be fair, the same analysis would have to be made at the other T14's. I'm guessing that Penn-Wharton JD-MBA's do more than ok, as do those that spend a year at HBS. So, after we factor in all JD Advantage jobs-- from a school's joint JD-MBA program--would the ATL rankings change much? Doubtful.

Well HBS/Wharton/Kellogg/SBS/Booth are in a different league from the rest of the T14 b-schools is the argument for why it would change.

I was also curious about what you guys thought specifically about the claim that through the Kellogg connection, some vanilla JDs were able to land MBB level jobs.

*I have no interest in these jobs, just curious.

I think it's BS. The connection to Kellogg (particularly for recruiting) for non-MBAs is non-existent. MBB hire JDs at Northwestern the same way they hire them at all of the T14.

The JD-MBA programs at those schools are much smaller as a percent of the total law graduates than it is at NU.

So MBB aside, do you still think that on average NU's "JD Advantage" jobs are more optimal than JD Advantage at its peer schools for vanilla JDs? Or do you think his letter strictly applies to JD/MBAs?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
