Nearly every firm website has a page where you can search all their lawyers by law school attended (and practice area/firm office/etc.)

You should probably focus on finals and not worry about stuff that won't happen for 3.5 months, dude.

As soon as finals and writeon is done it's great to get to networking. But your grades are the overwhelming most important thing that will get you jobs.

For those 1Ls not quite as overeager, we're introducing an alumni exploration widget to the career page of LearnLeo within about a month. It'll show the alumni at a given firm from Northwestern (or whatever school a law student is using our site from), as well as some information about them. Stay tuned...
(This public service announcement brought to you by me, earning my paycheck on a Sunday.)

Looking at this, there's a HUGE chunk of IL placement. Is a lot of that self-selection? I know I've heard that biglaw in Chi requires pre-existing ties or rock star grades, so what am I missing here? Some of the IL number could be clerkships, school employment, etc. but still, that's a lot.

Compare that with the class profile to get a better idea:
http://www.law.northwestern.edu/admissi ... ofile.html
A large chunk of it seems to be self-selection (34% of the incoming class seems to be from Midwest and 42.9% end up in Illinois--doesn't seem too crazy).

Don't get it mixed up and think "ties"=must be from the Chicagoland area or have family here. Being from a midwest state is plenty in that regard.

I'm making a calculator to help calculate COA with tuition/COL increases but I need some data to help the project (
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=208464). The data specifically needs to come from current students who can look at their budget for the past 1-3 years. I would like to know the average rent, utilities, food, cable/internet for the following schools. If you can help out, please fill out this form. Thanks!

I've heard differing things on this, and the consensus seems to be that this is not the case. The more I learn about Chi and visit, the more I love it though. We'll see if I'm still saying that come winter, but yeah...

Thanks.......... btw, what is it about Kiorkland? It seems almost all NU graduates go to the main h office in NYC, and not much at NYC.
Er....? Kirkland & Ellis' head office is in Chicago. Of the 146 Northwestern alumni working at Kirkland, 100+ of them are located in the Chicago office. If you're asking why not many NU alumni at Kirkland are located in New York, it's probably because the HQ is in Chicago. They have a NY office, but it's certainly known as a Chicago firm.

Self-scheduled, dooder.
Vic sang again today, summing up municipal law to the tune of Call Me Maybe.

np.
On the off-chance that you care, there's a review session Wednesday, normal time/room.

Chicago ties are kind of a strong tie-breaker. If you have other compelling reasons that the firm would want you (grades, experience, program, etc...) then you can land a job in Chicago just by having attended Northwestern. If you're from out of the area, sitting at median, with average experience and nothing else "special" going for you then Chicago may be a very hard market to crack (especially if you bid poorly).
