thanks for the good advice. the practice areas i've been looking into have kind of a hybrid transactional/regulatory components i'm not sure if that's the same in the kind of classic m&a / capital markets practices or if that's still better in NY than DC but i assume the answer is yes just because that's where the clients areLondonbear wrote:.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
This is why I ended up glad I took a lot of heavy doctrinals 2L year. I got more generous curves because they were packed with 2Ls, so even with tough information, the grading felt fair.Mr. Blackacre wrote:Chalk it up to some naive sense of fairness, I guess. Going to a school for which "law is but the means, justice is the end," you know, that kind of section 3 spirit that infects even those of us on the path to the dark sideCapitol_Idea wrote:How was this not common knowledge. Although it makes for a pretty great 3L year so just bask in it when it's your turnMr. Blackacre wrote:Great news re:grades. I finally got confirmation of what some of us have been suspecting for a while. In the spring, the school allows professors to grade 3Ls a month before 2Ls in mixed classes, while keeping all of us on the same curve. Rumor had it that it isn't uncommon for professors to dish out a very nice curve for the 3Ls, and reserve the lower end of the curve for 2Ls. I can confirm that this is exactly what happened in one of my classes this semester.
It's on days like today that I am proud to aTTTend the prestigious GeorgeTTTown UniversiTTTy Law CenTTTer.. I can definitely tell you it was a surprise to most of my friends.
But then again I don't have a lot of credits left to take for next year, so I guess I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
So I've been looking through some of the data on Law School Transparency, and one of the figures that gets included in the jobs reports is the percentage of grads who obtained their job through OCI. For the last few years, these are the percentages:
2011: 14.1%
2012: 36.1%
2013: 40.3%
2014: 5.3%
This is confusing to say the least. I almost want to assume the 2014 figure is simply a typo. Any ideas what's going on here?

Not a typo, but not accurate either: http://lawschooltransparency.com/docume ... 4/gulc.pdf
The school did a poor job this year with collecting data about how its graduates obtained jobs.

I also don't understand why career services doesn't try to get info on all places you get an offer from, rather than just where you accept a SA. For a school that puts more kids into big law (by total number of students) than just about any other school, it's shocking how little statistical information they have.

would anyone happen to know the longest one can take to finish the part-time program? according to what ive seen on the website, there are some exceptions/circumstances where one can extend the 'complete-by date term'.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
I'm teaching a summer camp for high school kids interested in legal careers and I'm trying to arrange for them to tour Georgetown. Unfortunately the admissions office is completely unresponsive. Are there any GULC students who want to meet with a group of high school students and show them your school or talk to them about what law school is like?

No. People move out in the summer and apartment turnover is pretty high in the summer.ChristineBaskets wrote:Am I playing with fire if I wait until mid July to see what becomes available at these complexes
What? No. There are tons of available apartments in DC. Pick up a newspaper or look on Craigslist. Lol at 'possibly unsafe' - where are you looking, East of the Anacostia river?ChristineBaskets wrote:and possibly less safe locations, or paying an arm and a leg to live in one of the higher-end/walking distance locations

Walking distance is overrated public transport is the best *except when it's on fire*

How much do the course books usually go for ad where can I buy them at a reduced rate? There arent any course materials listed on the admitted students page.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
1. Live close to the school so you can duck back and walk/spend time with the dog between classes. Easier to do when you can actually set up your schedule 2L and beyond.darkchildnana wrote:Hi everyone - 0L here committed to Georgetown and starting in the fall. 2. Have an SO/roommate with an alternating schedule than yours
3. hire a dogwalker/doggy day care (the latter are more in the suburbs than in DC proper though, I think)
Your schedule really shouldn't be so crazy that you can't spend time with your dog.
Doctrinals are the killer in terms of costs - conservatively I think books are generally ~$200 per class (maybe a little less if you rent). When you get your book assignments, look at the edition years and if they're not super new (2015 or before), try looking online first. Otherwise you're stuck with the bookstore.zg2144 wrote:How much do the course books usually go for ad where can I buy them at a reduced rate? I've gotten some pretty good prices on Amazon
Also re dog it won't be difficult at all I spent very little time on campus beyond in class hours you can study at home and the hours are probably equal to or less than a full time job until finals time

Thanks Capitol! Planning on living about 7-10 mins walking distance from the school. Unfortunately, SO lives in NYC and I'm planning on living solo in a 1 bedroom. I'm sure on days that I can't really go back and forth too much, a dogwalker will do the trickCapitol_Idea wrote:1. If you're living at like 77H or mass court or whatever you will definitely not have a problem with your dog

Definitely use bookfinder or a similar tool for every book, even 2016 published books. I've found some killer deals with something like that, that can scour countless sites at once.Capitol_Idea wrote:1.
