WOOT Lân!!
We did talk about housing..... I can't seem to find it right now but I know it is there somewhere. In fact, i think there are even a few people looking for roomates on here perhaps.
Good luck on your search and see you soon, though I do have to give another big shout out to the evening division!

Re Housing
If you aren't going to live on campus, don't live near campus...unless you like getting offers from dudes that wanna siphon gas out of your tank...
Midtown is good, anything north of Broadway and west of Alhambra.
Also a few students live in the area known as the "Pocket," which is off of I5 south of the 80/50 interchange (the exit is Pocket/Greenhaven I think), and some live in Natomas (north of downtown along I5).

i'm no longer homeless!!!
for those of you looking, cada has no apartments available until the end of august. nielsen has some okay properties but i thought they were a little overpriced. a lot of the arden properties will take up to a week to process your application. whisler has a couple of properties available, but nothing that i was wild about. you can also try laughlin properties as well. i have a cat which knocked down my possibilities substantially. (can you tell it's been a loooooooong search for me?)
i'm all for going out! anyone want to have lunch or dinner the next couple of days, feel free to call. i think i've already posted my number on here somewhere.
i hope you guys are doing well and i'm looking forward to thursday!
cdmays - you said that there was going to be a party on thursday...this coming thursday as in two days from now or next thursday once registration/orientation starts?
samm
ps any leads on good salvation armies/goodwills to hit up for furniture? the budget's extremely limited right now and i need a couch!

lan: i too was waitlisted for the day division in late april. no luck with acceptance, though. 3.33 gpa and 151 lsat. what were your numbers? i haven't been as persistent as you. i did send e-mails to admissions every 2 weeks for a while. were you accepted for the day division? congratulations and good luck.
p.s. don't sweat about housing. midtown sacramento is a sea of rental apts. i've lived in midtown for 9 years now and find it one of the best areas for renting. it's 5 minutes from mcgeorge, mostly safe, and packed with coffee shops and affordable restaurants. cheers.

stuff
The Thursday night gig will be the Thursday of Orientation. Typically we take all the 1Ls out to a local bar and have a good time. Last year there was probably about a hundred or so people there. We can't include it as part of the official Orientation program as bar crawls are "not approved of" by the Administration. (although they don't care so much that they ever actually do something about it).
For those of you guys on the waitlist, here's the key: call them. Call at least once a week, more preferably. Mcgeorge may not have told you this, but they do in fact have a system in place whereby those that are more persistent in their calls get bumped up on the waitlist. I know because it happened to me (and I confirmed this with the admissions office at the time).
By the way, for those of you on myspace, feel free to friend me at --LinkRemoved--.

Matokah - I hear ya on the pains of sorting through one's crap / worldly possessions and memorabilia. I hope (and assume I'll need to…) to manage to consolidate things sooner than when I retire!
...Hmm, and you must be approaching Sac / reaching your destination very soon!! That's the hotness. (Literally. )
A friend of mine who got married this month recently mentioned that she photographed a bunch of her knick-knacks, toys & nostalgic cluttery stuff from her childhood and then gave or threw the stuff away because she simply didn't need it / it lacked utility (and she lacks extra storage space). I thought that was a pretty good strategy (assuming one backs up one's digital pics and/or keeps negatives from film developed!).
**In exactly 2 weeks, I'll be flying from Austin to Sacramento** and soon afterward, I'll be moving into my rented room in Davis and starting orientation week there. Pretty exciting.
So I definitely won't be in town for the meet-up at Ink that y'all have planned for this Sunday, but I hope that it's thoroughly enjoyable and wish you all the best!!
And maybe I'll meet some of you "irl" someday…
I think I've posted this once before but oh well; this is my myspace, though I prefer facebook(!): --LinkRemoved--
Oregongirl - I'm sorry to learn of the resistance or disapproval you're getting from the naysayers in your family. But I figure at least being forced to defend/justify one's life choices in the face of scrutiny & opposition may help one achieve a more realistic perspective about what's to come; and experience dealing with arguments and having to justify oneself may not only lend one a sense of security in those choices, but also prepare one for the tough road ahead (law school itself!)…
Or something(?!).

Congrats Lan!!! If you have any questions about housing in Greenhaven/Pocket area let me know, that's where I am living for the year and there are a lot of apartments out there. Plus, there are a couple of ways to get to campus, one without having to use the freeway if that's a concern for you.
herzchen: Thanks for the advice. It kind of sucks to have people say stuff but honestly I should have expected nothing less from these two people. So for now, I am just at them and concentrating on the task at hand.
Matokah: I totally understand having too much stuff. LOL. I'm not sure how I accumulated half of what I moved home from Eugene.

For those looking for a place to live I must second (or even third) Chris' opinion that midtown is a good place to live. Personally, it's great because there are bars downtown there and you can literally crawl home if you drink too much! I live in the "Pocket" which is a nice part of Sac and is quiet with plenty of good stores but lacks that bar fly charm that I have grown to love - so there are a few sacrifices one will have to make with wherever they decide to live.
Natomas is a good area too. There are lots of cool stores and restaurants (and bars!) and great places to live - it's great for young adults and new families.
Wherever you look be sure to go look on the police website for crime ratings - that might be something you care about. Nobody wants to get robbed when they're getting into their car to go to class.

In the email Ms. Meyer sent me she congratulated me on getting into the daytime division, but the official letter says evening division. I called back and found out I'm actually in the evening division. But oh well. My other option was going full time at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, so I'm quite happy with the evening deal.
Can any of you give me cross streets for "The Pocket"? As a non-local, I don't know if I can go on the internet looking for housing in "The Pocket" area without reference streets.
Thanks all!

Lân!!!! CONGRATS, future classmate! (glad I can say it officially now ) See? What'd we tell you? Being a pest seems to work. I should start my own law school admissions company. Who needs to actually become an attorney when my advice is good as gold?
Despite I80's attempts to drive me INSANE in Nebraska (2 hours dead stopped between Omaha and Lincoln was torture!), we've made it to Sacramento and move into a condo I'll be renting with Artful_Dodger in Arden.
On a random note, Wells, NV is a pretty scary little town (that was stop #3 on our journey), and Northern CA west of Reno, NV is GORGEOUS. The Sierra Nevada range took my breath away.
Nothing much more to say here. For those of you still on the waitlist, bug, bug, bug the admissions office (and Adam Barrett in particular).
&&Chris, soon-to-be-3L: Hullo! I'll be on the Beyond McGeorge trip, too. My name's Amber and I have sorta blonde hair and won't really know anyone. Say hi!
Very excited to be here (and proud that I can at least navigate pretty well around the Arden area without getting confused).
Quick Question for those who got the email about the Perkins Loan: Could you please forward it onto me (or post it to the list group we have?). I'm at sass0024 at umn.edu, and I never received it. My internet connection in this hotel isn't very strong, but I want to make sure I get it taken care of before school starts. Much obliged.
Off to bed. . .it's going to be a long day of upacking tomorrow in the 97F weather.

Hello all McGeorge people,
I'll be in Sacramento tomorrow night (don't know where I'm staying yet) but I told my friend who road tripped with me (from Ohio) I would show him a good time so I'll be out tomorrow night and anyone in town looking to meet a future classmate will be welcome to give me a call (@ 513-254-4645).

Orientation "Bar Review" Thursday August 9th
Hi guys,
Next Thursday, August 9th, there will be a "Bar Review" (in other words, sloshfest ) for all the incoming 1Ls. Pass the word far and wide! Since the school doesn't condone alcoholism amongst its students (seriously -- wait till you get the annual letter from the Dean about it), it's not part of the official Orientation schedule. Nevertheless, it's a long standing tradition!
So,
Thursday August 9th
BREW IT UP in Sacramento - Corner of 14th and H.
Show up around 10.
This is word of mouth only - so pass the word to EVERYONE.

Chris: I'm a day student, so I'll likely be in another raft but I'll try to find you nonetheless!
I don't know if you have this info, but if you do, would you mind reposting it? The person in charge of Beyond McGeorge sent an email out about 3 weeks ago about what we need to bring. It's on my old computer which seems rather deadish right now. Repost? Anyone?
Jarrett: I seriously can't wait to see Tahoe in the winter! I'm really loving Northern California right now
Just went skating this afternoon, meaning I managed to find the closest full size ice rink. Whoo! Now I need to go through the torture of a written test to get my CA drivers license. Yeesh.
And I need to figure out how to get my wireless router hooked up so I don't have to lay on the floor while I'm typing this. I assume it just hooks straight into the cable modem box and into a wall. Ack, who knows?

Hey gang, I have been out of town, but am returning tomorrow night. Looks like my apartment will be ready after all, yay!
Does anyone else need to move or buy furniture? I was thinking of renting a truck and moving some large items/making an IKEA run on the 7th or the 8th. If anyone would be interested in splitting the cost of a rental and then helping each other move things, let me know.
Anyway, I will be at Ink on the 5th. My phone # is 415 519-6578

Matokah, I was browsing some law forums and I came across some of your posts from a while back on another forum (lawdiscussions.com I think) and I thought it was pretty funny to come across your post on another forum. Or at least there's another Matokah running round out in cyberspace.
There was one spot left in the rafting trip, so I will be joining you guys!
I was in Sacramento today looking for a place to live. Per the advice on this forum, I took a look at the Pocket, and it was really perfect... but a bit too perfect for me. I drove for miles and miles along Pocket and Greenhaven but did not find much of anything other than more houses! lol. Great place to study but I think I would go nuts there if I had to drive say 30 minutes to get to a Target or something.
I finally settled on Natomas, which pretty much has everything one might possibly want centrally located in one place. Since I'm so late in the housing game though, I'm probably going to have to get a 1 bedroom apartment there (kinda steep price-wise) but before I put pen to paper, and sign a lease, I was wondering if anyone here still needed a roommate or had a room they were trying to fill. Otherwise I'm going to go back on Sunday before we meet at INK and sign the papers.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
