Counter-consideration: Having already downsized, they probably won't do it again for a while. This may make them a better choice than firms who have yet to shrink down to a size sustainable by the "new normal," and may be due for a lay-off in the future.

Also, most of the layoffs appear to be in Boston and Houston, although some associates in NYC got the boot, too.Arbiter213 wrote:Weil is not like Dewey- they're very healthy, just never made the cuts during the downturn others did. They're extremely profitable and don't have partner guaranteed pay.

Anecdote: You're about to go massively in debt, why would you pay out the nose to live far from campus just to have a nicer, newer apartment?toothbrush wrote:can anyone confirm / deny the review for collegetown terrace seen in the link below ?

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
Simply because I'm on a WL at HLS with a js1 and I am waiting on getting an apartment til the very end (mid August). I've been told I won't find anything at that point and I know Collegetown Terrace will have rooms available.Arbiter213 wrote:Anecdote: You're about to go massively in debt, why would you pay out the nose to live far from campus just to have a nicer, newer apartment?toothbrush wrote:can anyone confirm / deny the review for collegetown terrace seen in the link below ?

What does everyone do travel-plan wise regarding AJF? Do they plan on going to Ithaca or back to wherever they were for the summer/home?

Probably back to Ithaca. Assuming that you get callback interview in the interim between AJF and classes, it may be easier to travel back and forth. Though I believe most of the expense is paid for by the firmMischiefMayhemSoap wrote:What does everyone do travel-plan wise regarding AJF? Yeah I'll probably stay in Ithaca as well. My internship wraps up the Wednesday before AJF and I really have no reason to stay.
That and I want to get my money's worht out of my overpriced apartment.

You're all also going to have Journal orientation at some point in there.LFH_intheflesh wrote:Yeah I'll probably stay in Ithaca as well. My internship wraps up the Wednesday before AJF and I really have no reason to stay.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a typical amount of initial interviews that people wind up with each day?

How quick is the turnaround time between AJF screeners and CBs?

They usually call with a couple of days. The CB itself can be anything from the day after to six weeks (or more?) later.ImNoScar wrote:How quick is the turnaround time between AJF screeners and CBs?

How is the availability of off-campus housing (not school-affiliated apartments, I mean like rental houses)? What are the prices like? I have a wife, daughter, and two dogs so on campus or school-affiliated housing is a no-go for me.

Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
Anything close to the law school will be pricey, unless your wife has a good income. Downtown is a little better and has good bus service. Alternatively, prices are about halved for things driving distance away.cavtrpr wrote:How is the availability of off-campus housing (not school-affiliated apartments, I mean like rental houses)? Edit: Also, if you are starting in the fall, you are extremely late in the game.

Oh no, no, no. I'm not attending in the fall. I am in the Fall '14 admissions cycle. I'm not quite finished with my service obligation yet. My wife is an RN, but I'd still like to have rental prices that are reasonable. I'd be willing to commute. How is the crime downtown? Are there any suburbs nearby that might be worth looking into? What is that communities name?Lincoln wrote:Anything close to the law school will be pricey, unless your wife has a good income. Downtown is a little better and has good bus service. Re: Cornell 1L taking questions
There is practically zero crime downtown and it is much quieter and better for kids than Collegetown (which is the neighborhood closer to the law school). A lot of older law students and most grad students live downtown or in the Fall Creek neighborhood. For commuting, just check a map of nearby small towns; Ithaca isn't really large enough to have suburbs, per se, although Lansing and Cayuga Heights might qualify.cavtrpr wrote:Oh no, no, no. So.....how close are we to finding out whether we made a journal?

So in the event that you get no journal, I heard that you can work into JLPP. Is there a point to this - I mean AJF and everything would be over by then - assuming you have a job?

Wait what? Then how do you "work on" to JLPP in that short time period between decisions and AJF?Arbiter213 wrote:Work on decisions will be made before AJF.MischiefMayhemSoap wrote:So in the event that you get no journal, I heard that you can work into JLPP.
