Re: UChi Current Students Taking Questions
It's just the way things like this work. Every poached football coach, for example, releases a public statement about how he loves his school and would never leave-the day before another school announces he will be their new coach.Wahrheit wrote:Obviously that's not what I meant, just seems weird.Mal Reynolds wrote:Yeah I heard a few firms are considering skipping OCI next year.Wahrheit wrote:Should I be concerned that four days ago he was talking about the future of the work he would do at the law school? Damn.

What material effect does this have on you? And our email said that Oregon's board just voted on it so maybe he didn't think he would get the job. Doesn't seem dishonest unless we're being really unfair to the guy.Wahrheit wrote:Maybe not lead a Q&A session talking about things he knew he probably wasn't going to do? That could be a good start.
I totally get the leaving thing, Robb is spot on. Simultaneously, that could have been a different event or someone else leading it.

Yeah administrative turnover happens all the time in academia. If anything it's a good sign.

Our 1L year Schill was a finalist for Chancellor of Wisconsin and he pushed through programs before and after. Just the nature of the beast, he was pretty good at his job and the next person won't have to rock the boat.

I hope we get someone like Schill again - a professional dean/rainmaker.
On a more serious note, any suggestions on who I should talk to during firm-wise tomorrow? I am interested in start up/PE/VC work if possible.

Cooley/Wilson Sonsini/Gunderson/Fenwick(?)
I think focusing on any San Fran/Silicon Valley firms is a good place to start.

Yeah. As weird/awkward as Schill is, he sure knows how to get folks to show him the money.lawschool2014hopeful wrote:I hope we get someone like Schill again - a professional dean/rainmaker.

Do y'all know who is coming from Cooley? If it is Peter Werner, just hang out with him through the whole thing. He is chill as fuck. I don't know if Gunderson will show up, but he came for OCI my year and he is also awesome.Mal Reynolds wrote:Cooley/Wilson Sonsini/Gunderson/Fenwick(?)

@Mal. Thanks. That was my plan as well, just talk up all of the SF/SV firms.

Re: UChi Current Students Taking Questions
Hello! I'm a February admit that will 90% be attending.
1) What are all your thoughts on double depositing? Is this an expected part of the process? I'm conflicted. To me, it seems unethical and a poor way to start a relationship with a degree-granting institution. On the other hand, it would be really nice if UChi played ball and handed over some extra aid...
2) How competitive is it to participate in a clinical program? I imagine that there are a fixed number of spots per year and that certain clinics are more popular than others. What's the selection process like? Specifically, I'm interested in "The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights".
Thanks a lot.

Define reasonable. I would stay somewhere on the route of either the 2 or the 6. But really, as a 1l, I think it's best to live in Hyde Park.cubs_fan69 wrote:cubs_fan69 wrote:How far north of the law school would you guys recommend living if you still wanted a reasonable public transportation-based commute?

Re: UChi Current Students Taking Questions
Hoping to transfer, actually. I guess a better question is what neighborhoods would you suggest north of Hyde Park? Assuming I wouldn't have to catch transfers or something and could just sit and read, I doubt even a 45 minute ride would bother me. (I ask because possibly planning on NU as a contingency but need to start making living plans now for SO, and I'd rather err on the side of being closer to NU because she will likely work north of NU) (don't quote?). Thanks!TheUnicornHunter wrote:Define reasonable. I would stay somewhere on the route of either the 2 or the 6. Re: UChi Current Students Taking Questions
It's a little bit different since you're not a 1L and you can just group your classes on a couple days or just not go. River North is obviously pretty easy to swing and same goes for Old Town. Almost everyone who lives in Lakeview or LP has a car or carpools.

Re: UChi Current Students Taking Questions
Public transit wise you gotta be on the 2 or very close to a red/blue line and prepared to transfer and deal with the shit show that can be. I wish I'd have considered further north than South Loop though, SL kind of sucks.

Agreed. That's what made me stay in HP because SL sucks and the commute to other areas is too long for my personal preference.2014 wrote:SL kind of sucks.

For the NW v Chicago discussion.
Not sure how accurate this is but some NW students told me they get about 12 interviews for OCI. I think the average here is 30. And people can do more if they want to.

Yeah, i don't understand why SL is a thing. I think people do it because "not HP" but fuck that.Mal Reynolds wrote:Agreed. That's what made me stay in HP because SL sucks and the commute to other areas is too long for my personal preference.2014 wrote:SL kind of sucks.

Re: UChi Current Students Taking Questions
Commute couldn't be easier it's faster to get to school from SL than Regents if you are at any of the last 3-4 2 bus stops. It's pretty well situated between all the trains too so easy to branch out. The biggest gripes are nothing to do in SL itself and it is priced pretty high, both are true.TheUnicornHunter wrote:Yeah, i don't understand why SL is a thing. Re: UChi Current Students Taking Questions
This is probably real late in the year to be asking this, but I still do not understand the grading scale at all. I get that a 177 is median, but around what percentile is top 30%? 20%? 10%? Basically, I do not understand any grade that is not a 177 lol
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
