If you were a real transfer student, you'd be excited to get on grounds.
Seriously, though, welcome to UVa.

Sly, i'm a William and Mary alum and season ticket holder.
You cant ask me to give up all my heritage before the first day of classes.
Affectations will come with time, I am certain.

None of the emails that I can find indicate exactly when our second lottery is going to start/end, but for whatever reason I was very much under the impression that it would start todayish.badwithpseudonyms wrote:Not to sound like a complete newb, but: Oh hai, when do we regizter fo classez?

Re: UVA 2L taking questions
Just got in off the waitlist with this new deferred acceptance thing they're doing. I am planning on attending a peer school with $50,000. With a 3.5/172, anyone have any ideas if I might get money when they award it next March? I prefer UVA but am hesitant to gamble. And sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place. This is my first time on here (recommended as a good resource by a friend).

What? I'm not sure I understand your situation.jazzyjeff wrote:Just got in off the waitlist with this new deferred acceptance thing they're doing. Regardless, I think you might as well go to the other school. I don't think you could count on getting much more than that here at UVa, and getting that amount is obviously not set in stone.

Re: UVA 2L taking questions
+1. If you were waitlisted and then given no money this year, I'm not sure how waiting a year and trying again would help your prospects. No matter what, your UGPA is still going to be below median at UVa, so that's going to reduce your chances at a scholly. If a peer institution (I'm curious as to what you're considering a peer here, by the way) is offering you $50K, I think you should take it over $0 at UVa.5ky wrote:What? Re: UVA 2L taking questions
They have offered some people deferred acceptances off the waitlist, as in, "you are accepted off the waitlist, but only if you defer, because we don't have any more slots but want you to come." They said we would be considered along with everyone else for money when they award scholarships for next year's class, and also that having been accepted off the waitlist would not be a consideration when awarding aid. So basically I'm just asking if anyone has any thoughts on what sort of numbers typically get aid from UVA. If my numbers count me out, I will likely choose the other school. Admissions said they couldn't speculate as to whether or not I'd receive aid. I'm guessing not though.

The above is a LSN search of applicants this cycle with a 172 LSAT and a 3.4-3.6 UGPA. It doesn't appear that any got money. I would be pretty comfortable saying that the award at your peer school will definitely be greater than anything you could get from UVA.

Re: UVA 2L taking questions
Any recommendations on whether I should take Hynes-Law and Business (TR) or Walt (MW) for Secured transactions?
I will be taking Walt's Bankruptcy Class (MW) and my other classes will be TR if that makes a difference.

So in light of worsening employment prospects, even at UVA, do you guys think attending at sticker is a bad idea?

There's been no indication of worsening career prospects. People are going off the deep end in the legal employment forum.jazzyjeff wrote:So in light of worsening employment prospects, even at UVA, do you guys think attending at sticker is a bad idea?
I have yet to see anything that indicates c/o 2013 has it any worse than '12, '11 or '10.

How is top 1/4 getting only 3 preselects not considered worse than last year?vamedic03 wrote:There's been no indication of worsening career prospects. Attending sticker anywhere should give you pause - no matter what the employment prospects seem like. But I'll reiterate again that I think the tumult going on in the legal employment forum is kind of overblown.jazzyjeff wrote:So in light of worsening employment prospects, even at UVA, do you guys think attending at sticker is a bad idea?

Re: UVA 2L taking questions
After having talked to some people, and more results coming through for the people on the forum, it sounds like a few people just had really bad luck (and voiced it), not that there is a systemic problem.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
