I am still trying to figure out my courses for early registration. Do any upperclassmen have any thoughts on any of the following class/professors?

Business association - with either Ganor or Hu
Corporate governance - Cunningham
Con Law II Civil Liberties - Abramson
Mediation - Jury
Negotiation - any of Fox, Jury, Schless (any preferences?)
Alternative investments - Young

Also any recommendations of classes you took and enjoyed would be helpful

Heard good things about Hu. That's too early in the morning though. I'd wait for Sokolow to teach it.

Corp Gov is lolworthy and easy. Bid it first.

Heard people complain about Negotiation with Schless and some took it P/F but that's about all I know.

PR with Dzienkowski and Corp Gov are the only MUST TAKES this semester IMO.

Any particular reasoning why PR with Dzienkowski is a must take?

He's one of the people who writes the MPRE

His curve is as favorable as possible

He's also #theman

I'm confident in saying that he's the GOAT PR professor

Any decent restaraunts within walking distance of the law school?

Trudy's tex-mex. the Mexican martinis are awesome.

+1 for Trudy's but that's A) kind of a long-ish walk and B) not somewhere you want to go if you hope to get any work done for the rest of the night.

Plenty of stuff near by depending on what/when you want, but remember this is Texas so driving is often assumed for the better places.

If you are just looking for lunch between classes: George's (downstairs cafe, used to suck but has gotten a lot better in the past year); Jimmy John's (about a 7-10 min walk), fast food at the stadium (about a 5 min walk) including How do you Roll, Subway, and maybe 1-2 more?; food at the Student Activities Center on main campus (about a 7-10 min walk) including Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, Taco Cabana, and more.

If you are looking for somewhere after class, Trudy's is a great choice. I always enjoyed Sao Paulo for dinner and Crown & Anchor (pub) for drinks and some food. Both are next to each other and w/in easy walking distance.

Snarf's is awesome if you like grilled sandwiches. It is right across the street from the law school on the corner of Dedman and Dean Keeton.

Yeah, those are legit. I think they're almost too generous with the avocado sometimes, though; I've definitely had some unplanned restroom trips after eating them.

to the former, that's not a thing right now. Worry about getting your grades to the point where you don't need to sell yourself. But generally speaking "selling yourself" in an interview with a law firm, like you would for say a sales job, is a bad move. Traditionally, it's a profession that fancies itself as "above" marketing, and presenting yourself in that kind of vein is going to be a turn off. If you get interviews it means they think you're good enough on paper to work there; they're typically just trying to determine if you're a fit once you're in front of them.

To the latter, with respect to getting an SA, not at all, unless you're including "being relatively personable" and "able to hold a conversation" within your definition.

Agree with the above regarding "selling yourself", except that I made sure I had a response ready to go for anything in my resume or cover letter that I thought the interviewer might ask about, and those responses emphasized skills and talents that the experience either required, or that I developed while doing them. You don't need to polish your responses to the level of an "elevator pitch", but you also shouldn't be caught flat-footed by a question about anything on your resume.

Okay. So I show up with hopefully good grades and try not to put my foot in my mouth. It just seems very passive. Either they like me or they do not. Is there anything I can do to connect with an interviewer? Do I just play it safe and try not to fumble?

Be engaging, ask about their career (what they did at your stage, how they got established, favorite aspects of their practice, what their plans are), be confident but humble, try to be interesting (e.g. have a neat go-to story for everything on your resume that you arrive to after answering the prompt). I would not try to play it safe and attempt to blend in, unless you have great grades and are interviewing at a firm that cares about grades above all else (e.g. the sullcroms of the world); be yourself and let the unique parts of your personality come through.

Hey 3Ls, around what time did you receive your grades last year? I see they have 5 weeks after finals to submit, wondering if professors generally use up the whole time. Hoping to keep applying for jobs and would rather send out with new grades sooner rather than later.

Totally depends on the professor, I'd say about half of mine have waited until the last week or even a week or two longer than that
