I know someone who got one of the A's in that Bradley class, but I'm strongly guessing that you wouldn't have overheard them bragging. Now you've got me quite curious as to who the braggart would have been. I would like to encourage them to talk about it while I'm in earshot, just to cure my curiosity.

That sounds just awful. The other night someone was bragging that he/she got an A in that class.

Was this unusually short memo person? I heard one of them had a disgustingly short answer. I knew Bradley liked short and concise, but I don't know how you could have done it in under 500 words.

My grade report finally shows a grade...a pass in LRW. Exciting times. I want a letter grade.

A friend does inform me that Shreve's civ pro grades are now posted. Hope everyone who posts here and was in that class did well.

Of course I go to sleep early the night grades start coming in, and now Onestart won't load up for me.

Ok finally worked. I feel so much less stressed now. I think Heidts class just absolutely terrified me, so the fact that I didnt fail is amazing.

Still no score from Professor Bethel. He's probably taking so long because he's trying to come up with a new letter to represent how awful I did.

Well, I would like to know what kind of pass I got in LRW, but I'll take knowing I didn't fail over wondering any day.

WTF/Congrats. I am still 2 out of 5 for grades (granted one should end up being "Satisfactory"), but congrats on liking your grades.

Do grades come in during the middle of the day? Every time it is in between times there is no one at the school.

To kings: I have issues with onestart working with firefox a lot, so I usually have to open up internet explorer to check my grades. It's like anything that isn't IE will only work about half the time. Oh, and internet explorer is complete garbage. I will just be happy to get my grades so I don't have to open IE for 5 more months.

FWIW, Gjerdingen, Geyh, and Bethel all showed up this morning at like 7 AM.

I use Firefox and I've never had an issue with Onestart. I got my grades through the student center on Onestart.

This excited me until I realized we don't have all of the same classes together, we apparently just shared Geyh and Bethel.

I'm just glad to finally have some letter grades. And admittedly, my grade in Geyh didn't turn out that badly, the curve must have been pretty forgivingg.

Im totally lost on the curve though. I know that that 3.3 is median but thats about it ha. It seems to me that there is likely not much separation in the top 20% range, and I don't really get where there is a cut off.

Very interesting thanks a lot. Obviously there can be some minor differences depending on how we all did, but that clarifies my confusion.

the ones on IUB. at least with my classes, it seems that at least 30% of the class is getting an A- or above. It just seems like there is an awful lot of a's going out for an A- average to still be top 10 Percent.

Im thinking LLM and Int students probably through of the posted distribution though, and that could explain my confusion.

LLM students are on a different curve.

The curve works. It's a mathematical certainty. It is just a very tight deviation, especially during first semester where there are a lot of ties -- many students have the identical match of grades (i.e. 2 A-'s and 2 B+'s).

EDIT: International JD students (not LLMs) are included in the curve. My speculation would lead me to believe that if English was not their first language then they tend to have a difficult time, landing near to the bottom.

I love that new curve. When I started, a 3.39 was top 20%. And then they changed it mid-stream on us. Made us all look permanently bad by comparison to those from Indiana who follow us...

I think a 3.0 curve works better actually. The deviation is too tight now.

The difference in how employers actually use view the students as a result of the new curve seems negligible. Most employers, it seems, care only about the percentile ranking anyway.

I think the idea isn't so much for those around the top of the class, but for those lower in the grade distribution.

Some schools with extreme curves (~2.5 being the average) set their students up with a disadvantage in comparison to similar schools. At least I think. If you and another applicant both keep their ratings on their resume, then it wouldn't so much matter.

Suppose X and Y are competing for the same job from similarly regarded schools. If X's curve is a 3.3, and their GPA is a 3.0, and Y's curve is a 2.7, with a GPA of 2.9, the employer would be more likely to hire X even though they are ranked significantly worse.

I think Florida Coastal, or something like that, gives all students an addendum to describe how rigorous their curve is. I don't think they would if their grades weren't hurting their job prospects (that and going to Florida Coastal, or whatever it's called).

I understand a big factor is students, who are paying a ridiculous amount of money, prefer the higher curve. Hell, you can at least sound like you are at the top of your class when you spit out your average GPA.

And wow, that curve is a little less forgiving than what my understanding of it was. I really need the rest of my grades.

I think it may come into to play that a higher gpa means a better attrition rate for IU, even if class rank doesn't change. a 3.0 is a lot easier to justify to one self, then a 2.5 or any Low C's on the transcript.

this combined with grades coming out two weeks into class likely help attrition.

I think we went through this a few pages ago, but it means they are certainly interested. I don't think any school wastes their time interviewing candidates they would not want to attend.

Dress up a little and don't act like a jerk seems to be a pretty good idea.
